When it comes to applying to jobs after school, we all want to be prepared. Here are some leadership opportunities that will improve your resume.

1. Resident Assistant

Obviously, this one of the biggest student leadership positions. At Towson and many schools, it also comes with amazing benefits including free room and board with a stipend. Becoming an RA teaches you so many leadership skills that apply to several jobs.

2. Orientation Leader

Being an OL is a great opportunity that I was lucky enough to be involved in last year. OL's are responsible for several new students at a time and making the new students feel comfortable. You often lead a group, work with others and learn about yourself.

3. LeaderShape

This week long program is made for student leaders. I'm going this week so I don't have many details about it, but I do know you do gain leadership skills and make amazing friends.

4. Student Government (SGA or URG)

I was a building representative for my building in URG. Being part of some type of student government shows that you care about making a difference in your community.

5. Retail

Being in retail teaches you how to multitask and deal with people. I love my job in retail. Not everyone does, but it looks great on resumes.

6. Working with Kids

You learn patience when you work with children and you become a role model. Many schools have day care programs that hire students.

7. Marketing or Communication Opportunities

This shows employers that you have a creative side. They also help improve your communication skills.

8. Becoming Involved with Greek life

So many connections around the country.

9. Joining the Executive Board an Organization

From president to philanthropy chair, any position on an executive board shows leadership and initiative.

10. NRHH- National Residence Hall Honorary

The top 1 percent of student leaders on campus—who could beat that? This organization allows students to connect with community service and recognizing others.

11. Random Resume Boosters

I write for Odyssey and I'm the social media director for Odyssey for fun! I don't think I'll be pursuing any career in writing, but it helps to have different things on your resume. I went to an art high school so I learned to work with a group of people through my ensemble. I worked for my school's Campus Activities Board to gain marketing experience. I'm not going into a career involving programming but I learned so much from it.

Employers want leaders. They want people who can: work in groups, work individually, communicate, time management skills, quick problem solving, multi tasking, organization and balancing activities. Also, think about courses that you'll take in school. Maybe taking a business class or a Spanish class will benefit you. Join clubs and organizations relating to your field. There are so many things you can do.

The next time you apply for a job or want to join an organization, think of how it will benefit you and your resume.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
