Why You Should Drop Everything And Go To Big Bend

Life's for the adventurous, right?

Why You Should Drop Everything And Go To Big Bend

This weekend my Wyld Life team and I decided to drive 18 hours out to Big Bend, and only actually be there for a grand total of 30 hours. We're insane, I know. But even with all the homework and responsibilities I knew I was coming home to, driving those 18 hours and only staying there for 30 was well worth every second. Here's why I think everyone should drop everything and make a weekend getaway out to Big Bend.

1. The road trip.

Everyone knows one of the best parts of any trip is the road trip, but especially this one. Watching Texas' landscape change before our very eyes as we drove down I-10 was super cool.

2. Eating at random hole-in-the-wall diners.

When you make your trip out to Big Bend, stop by the Milky Way in Junction, Texas. You will never experience a more "small Texas town" then good ol' Junction. Plus the food was actually pretty good.

3. Stopping on the side of the road to dance the long car ride jitters out.

Sometimes the drive is too long and you just need to pull over and dance, jump, and laugh under the stars with some of your closest friends.

4. The hiking trails.

Big Bend has so many to choose from, but I definitely recommend the Window Trail. It's not too hard, a 69-year-old did it and probably was less tired than I was, and the ending view is so worth the hike.

5. The bonding.

From the long car rides to sleeping on straight rocks, a trip out to Big Bend is the best way to grow deeper and make wonderful memories with some pretty awesome people.

6. No cell service.

Honestly, when I first realized service would be spotty at Big Bend, my Millennial heart stopped a little. However, once we were out there without any kind of distractions, we were able to completely focus on spending time with one another and enjoy the beauty of where we were.

7. The views.

No words could ever do this justice.

8. The stars.

There's no way you would be able to see stars this magnificent anywhere near Austin, or really any residential area. They're unreal.

P.S. this picture was definitely not taken by my iPhone's camera.

9. The sunsets.

Taken right after I said the sky reminded me of Trix yogurt (you know the kind with pink and blue coloring that you mixed altogether to make a mixture of the two; no, just me?). So gorgeous either way.

10. You can be a stone's throw away from Mexico.

The left side is Mexico, and the right is America. We may or may not have stood on the bank that is technically Mexico.

11. Campfire food.

Who doesn't love eating good ol' hot dogs and yummy s'mores surrounded by one of the most gorgeous places as the sun sets in the background?

12. The awestruck feeling that will not go away the entire time you're there.

Like how is this a real place?

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.

We all have a love hate relationship with winter, lets be real here. The snow makes people forget how to drive, its cold, the roads are bad, and chances are, you will be spending a lot more money than you do during the other months of the year. If you’re from the Midwest, it seems to be that winter lasts for what feels like forever. But despite the struggles that winter brings, there are so many things to love about it.

The Post Thanksgiving Panic And Anxiety

It happens to all of us, the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas the catch up with you.

Thanksgiving Break is most likely everyone’s favorite break during the fall semester. You get to go home and reminisce with all your high school friends. That diet you’ve been on for the past month goes out the window, and you get to eat until you put yourself into a food coma. There’s no rush on homework and you can just lie in bed and Netflix to your heart’s content. To me that sounds like an ideally wonderful break, and totally stress-free.
