10 Ways You Know You're From Houston When You Get to College

10. Your galleria is better than everyone else's.

Everyone talks about his or her “galleria" in his or her home city, but there is NOTHING like the Houston Galleria, especially during Christmas time. Houston sure does it bigger and better than everywhere else in Texas, especially with shopping, which I would never complain about.

9. You think Austin doesn't have humidity.

In Houston, you cannot even walk outside without sweating, or your hair turning into a frizz ball. Even though Austin is not that far away, it makes a big difference in your mind, when there's slightly less moisture in the air and you can actually breathe.

8. Even if you are not into sports, you hate Dallas.

Everyone knows how competitive Dallas and Houston are when it comes to the question: who lives in the best city in Texas? Whether it is the Rodeo vs. The State Fair, or the Cowboys versus the Texans, you do not pay attention to the city rivalry in north Texas.

7. You are not country.

You think you are a southern person from south Texas, but once you come to school, you realize that you are not even close. There are people that are from the smallest towns in Texas that have the thickest accents, where you just you sound like you are from the north. It's embarrassing…

6. Even though Galveston is gross, you do miss the beach.

Everyone always complains about how disgusting Galveston beach is, but once you get to college, you do miss going to beach with friends. I did take the beach for granted before I got to Austin, and I could go spend the day at my beach house with my friends.

5. Astroworld will always live in your heart.

A sure sign that you were a child growing up in Houston is that you know what Astroworld is. It is a theme park that you begged your parents to take you to, but then one day it was all wiped away and replaced by the NRG parking lot. Saddest day of my life…

4. Someone you know works at NASA

NASA is known for being as one of the most prestigious companies in the world, and we are fortunate to have it in our backyard. It is not rare at all to know parents that work there… to the point that it becomes a normal thing.

3. People do not understand the Houston Rodeo.

The Houston Rodeo is unlike another country bumpkin rodeo in Texas. It is held at NRG Stadium and the biggest singers in the entertainment business headline there. With a giant carnival, Luke Bryan, and impeccable food, this is definitely an event that everyone should attend.

2. Austin, you don't even understand traffic.

People here complain about Guad and the city traffic, but this is only a taste of what you experience when you come to Houston. Everyone knows you have to account for Houston traffic on your journey. I am warning you now. Please do not get on I-45 at 5 pm, or you are in for a bumper-to-bumper experience.

1. Houston is way bigger than you'd expect.

I always heard about Houston being the largest city in the Southern United States, and I have lived there all my life. But I have since learned that the city is so much bigger than I could ever imagine. People come from all parts of the city, and you learn about places in Houston that you have never even heard of. It is true. You are just another typical person from the biggest city in Texas.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
