I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, and the pieces that have been the best are always the ones I wrote while listening to music. Music does something to me that I can’t put to words, especially when I write, but it’s almost like the melody writes for me.

I’ve gone through so many sleepless nights where I knew I wanted to write something or had to write something for class but couldn’t because I couldn’t find inspiration. So here are some songs that I put together that personally help me find creativity.

1. “Sun” by Sleeping At Last

It starts out slow, escalates to a powerful climax and ends with a beautiful conclusion.

2. “Gravity” composed by Steven Price

Part of the score for the film "Gravity." It’s the instrumental music that really gets to me when I’m in solitude. This piece will give you goose bumps, and the ending will have you contemplating on whether you want to write an entire book or run five miles that same night.

3. Arrival of the Birds” by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra

A beautiful piece. Just listen to it.

4. “Pacific” by Sleeping At Last

This band is so incredible because they sing and compose instrumental music. I enjoy their music so much that I have an entire playlist just for them. This will leave you having beautiful thoughts, and it will never fail you.

5. “Time” Composed by Hans Zimmer

There’s no coincidence that this was part of the score for the film "Inception." It will cause your blood to rush, and you will never want to put that pen down.

6. “Forbidden Friendship” Composed by John Powell

Part of the score for "How to Train Your Dragon." I’ve been listening to this song continuously since my sophomore year of High School, and I still haven’t gotten tired of it. This musical piece will give you a plethora of hope and ambition.

7. “Outro” by M83

This is a very unique song because it goes silent for about a minute in the middle, and then reaches a climax beyond what you could ever imagine.

8. “Midnight” by Coldplay

I can listen to any of their songs anytime, but this is one in particular that really stuck out to me while I was working on a project. It’s very soothing but leaves your mind wondering at the same time.

9. “Intro” by The xx

Perfect for the Indie writer. This always helps me while I’m trying to write a personal poem or if I just want to write in my journal.

10. “August’s Rhapsody” from August Rush

I had to end with this one, and you’ll see why.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
