If you haven't yet realized, college is overwhelming. We are expected to maintain a social life while taking 17 hours, attending fraternity/sorority events, going to parties, possibly dating, studying, finding time to workout, and maybe even working a part-time job. All doing so off of the energy provided by a Starbucks coffee. Why do we put ourselves through all of this? Ultimately, it is to become qualified for our dream job and hopefully become just as successful as we imagined we would be in elementary school.
Imagine, for a second, that college is not the time to mess around, but to truly strive to become who we dream of being. If we have dreamed of being good mothers, good fathers, Godly men and women, successful CEOs, teachers, artists, engineers, etc., we'll need a change of mindset. The time is now. We often assume that one day we will wake up and be who we've always dreamed of being, but let's face it– That's unrealistic. Good results require commitment, loyalty, patience, and determination. Don't we want the best for ourselves? It's time to reevaluate our actions. It's time to ask ourselves: "Are my actions bringing me closer to my dream or only distracting me?"
Some people often think that walking with God wouldn't allow them to have a "fun college experience". Therefore, the two can't really coexist. Honestly, this could not be further from the truth. Walking with God is the most adventurous, joyous, and liberating journey you could ever take. It does not mean that you can't go out with friends and have a good time. It does not mean that you can't go to parties. It does not mean that you can't have a drink. Walking with God is not restricting, but freeing. He is not harsh, but gentle and kind. He does not turn away, but He runs to you even when you're in a mess. He is not distant, but with you through everything– midterms, failed relationships, leaving home, loneliness, etc. He does not shame you for your mistakes, but He comforts and loves. In the midst of the mess that is college, God can be there. He can handle the mess when you "literally can't even anymore."
College is the time to become that Godly man or woman if it is your desire. College is the time to find what you believe and start living accordingly. College is the time to step out as you are and embrace your uniqueness. Don't be pulled into a crowd that hinders you from becoming who you have always dreamed of.
Romans 12:2 "Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature."
