You Are Not Damaged Goods

Taylor Swift's prologue to "Clean" on the 1989 World Tour gave inspiration to so many people, and in case you missed out on it, I compiled some of the best advice she gave out.

Taylor Swift? Winner of seven Grammys, 19 American Music Awards, 22 Billboard Music Awards, 10 People's Choice Awards, and literally about a hundred others? Yeah, I've heard of her maybe a few times. Turns out, apart from being an incredibly successful singer/songwriter, she also can play the role of a sort of therapist, especially during the times you need her the most. Don't just take my word for it, though. Here are some some wise words from her prologue to "Clean" on the 1989 World Tour:

1.

Remember, you are your biggest supporter, and you're also your biggest enemy. You are what you yourself you are, and no one else has the ability to bring you down or build you up like you do.

2.

Tell yourself you're fine just the way you are. Tell yourself you can make it through today. Tell yourself how proud you are of the accomplishments you've made, whether it was getting an A on your math test or just getting out of bed that morning.

3.

People can talk as much as they want, but if they don't take the time to know you as a person, then they don't have the right to make you think differently of yourself.

4.

Your mistakes help you grow. Your mistakes help you learn. You are not a product of your mistakes, but rather a product of the lessons they taught you.

5.

If you haven't reached where you plan to stop yet, remember that there are so many adventures you have yet to go on and so many mountains left to climb. Just because you haven't seen the view at the top yet doesn't mean there is never going to be one.

6.

Take risks and make mistakes. It's important to learn from life. Try to spend time making more mistakes than you do regretting things you never tried.

7.

And as she sings "Clean," it just verifies the real struggle of getting through something that you never thought was possible, and that you can do it, no matter how big or difficult the problem is or was, because you're stronger than any problem that can try to break you. Never forget your value and self worth.

"You are the person who survived a bunch of rainstorms and kept walking. I now believe that pain makes you stronger. And I now believe that walking through a bunch of rainstorms gets you clean." - Taylor Swift

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
