The Real Miley Cyrus

There's more to her than meets the eye.

The Real Miley Cyrus

Some of you may know her as the rebellious, crazy, nude Instagrammer, or the little girl who played Hannah Montana on Disney Channel. Yes, that’s right, Miley Cyrus. My obsession began in 2006 when the television show first aired, then five seasons and five years later, she began producing albums. But one thing Cyrus has always done is give back. Not only is she incredibly talented, but she also has a huge heart. Just the other week she released an entire album, for free, to the public. Not too many celebrities are willing to do that.. huh, Taylor Swift?

Miley may come off as crazy and has her fair share of haters, but all in all she is a great human being. She uses her fame to help others and has no problem sharing her wealth with the world. She has supported more than 41 charities, including Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer, Feeding America, Houston Children’s Charity, Make-A-Wish Foundation, St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, Red Cross and many, many others.

Just this past year, Miley raised awareness for homelessness and LGBT community called the Happy Hippie Foundations, with a mission to “rally young people to fight against injustice facing homelessness youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.” Miley is helping 1.6 million youth who are homeless in the US from the money donated. She explains that all humans have valid feelings and rights and she wants to use her voice for young people everywhere.

Miley Cyrus also recently created a piece of art inspired by Caitlin Jenner’s Vanity Fair photoshoot and sold it at the amfAR Inspiration Gala in New York for $69,000, which was all donated to charity. In 2014, she received the VMA for video of the year and invited a homeless youth to accept the award on her behalf.

Miley donates to the City of Hope and has been since 2007. It is the prevention and cure of cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Miley donated 1 million dollars from every ticket sold during her “Best of Both Worlds” concert tour to the organization.

Blessings in a Backpack aims to feed elementary school children whose families qualify for the free and reduced meal plan program, and who may not have food on the weekends. This is just one of the many charities Cyrus has supported throughout the years, but one that really stuck out. Her love for people goes for miles and miles and she genuinely enjoys giving back. She has visited Bogota, Columbia to meet children benefiting from the Blessing in a Backpack program and supports two schools in Kentucky. She also supports 600 kids in the program in Hazard, KY and in 2011 she was presented with the Global Action Youth Leadership Award.

Next time you judge Miley, maybe do a little research and remember there is so much more than what meets the eye. It is important to remember to never judge and know, you don't know a person until you’ve walked a mile(y) in their shoes.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
