College Thank You Notes

College is a roller coaster ride. There are a few things that I've noticed have been instrumental in my college survival and success: certain websites, some student perks, some things needed for everyday life. Here are a few short thank you notes dedicated to some of those things.

1. Quizlet

Quizlet is the king of all study websites. I can either make my own virtual notecards to study for a test, OR, if I'm really lucky, I can find an already made Quizlet for your class. It has truly saved many a life. Thank you, Quizlet, for saving grades nationwide.

2. Caffeine

Coffee, tea, Diet Coke, RedBull, you name it, caffeine is a real life saver. From starting my day with a nice warm cup of coffee to wake me up, or downing some RedBull at 2 a.m. while pulling an all-nighter, caffeine is the real MVP. Thank you, caffeine, for keeping me going when nothing else will.

3. RateMyProfessor

Scheduling classes for the upcoming semester is one of the most grueling processes in college. What can make or break a class? The professor. How to know which professors are great and which ones to avoid? RateMyProfessor.com. Thank you, RateMyProfessor, for helping me avoid teachers that fail people for fun, while also finding some amazing mentors.

4. Naps

When I get home from a long day of classes at 2 p.m., my afternoon nap is always there for me. There isn't a better feeling in the world than throwing off my shoes and getting into the fluffy, cloud-like heaven that is my bed. Thank you, naps, for keeping me sane.

5. Student Discounts

A college student's budget is usually not a very large one. The only financially appealing thing about college is discounts. Go to a restaurant near campus? Student discount. Go to a museum? Student discount. Need a car wash? Student discount. Even better are the freebies. Every college event I've gone to, I've gotten something for free: t-shirts, koozies, hats, etc. Thank you, student discounts and freebies, for being the only thing between me and a bank account in the negatives.

6. 24 Hour Restaurants

There's no way I would have been able to survive college without 24 hour restaurants. There is nothing better than a plate full of pancakes as a midnight study break at the local pancake house. The only thing that makes me happier is 24 hour delivery. Food I can get at all hours of the night, and I don't even have to leave my house? Yes, please. Thank you, 24 hour restaurants, for providing me comfort food at all hours of the night.

7. Happy Hour

There is nothing more relaxing than sitting out on a patio with your best friends, drinking a margarita, and eating some chips and salsa. Happy hour is the best time of the day and the cure for a stressful day at school/work. Thank you, happy hour, for bringing some light into weekday afternoons.

8. Roommates

My roommates have been my lifeline and best friends throughout college. To my first friend freshman year and some of my most loyal friends throughout my for years, I really couldn't have done it without them. Nothing beats late night conversations about the most random topics or texting each other from your beds even though you're in the same room. Thank you, roommates, for being the friends I can always count on.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
