I Let My Boyfriend Dress Me For A Week, And Here's What Happened

I Let My Boyfriend Dress Me For A Week, And Here's What Happened

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you let your significant other dress you for a week? Do you ever wonder if they would dress you differently than you dress yourself? Well, this is either bravery or just plain stupid, but I'm about to find out exactly what will happen. I let my boyfriend, Jake, choose my outfits for a five-day school week, and here's what happened.

Jake's pre-experiment thoughts.

"I think this is going to be fun. I will do my best to not embarrass you. However, no promises. I would describe your style as varying from school teacher to hippie, but you always look good."

My pre-experiment thoughts.

Seriously? School teacher to hippie? After that comment I’m not feeling too confident about this. For those of you who have stumbled upon this article by chance, you might be more confident than those who know my boyfriend. We don’t always agree when it comes to style, so we’ll see how this goes.

Rules:

1. Jake will choose all of my outfits from Monday to Friday.

2. I'm not allowed to assist or deny any outfits.

3. Jake won't know how I feel about the outfits until the end of the week.

Monday

Weather: High of 60. Morning showers.

Jake’s choices

"Today I chose clothes that will not only keep you from getting wet, but also keep you looking fresh and hot during a cold February day. No please don't say that. Are you saying that? Please don’t say that. Rain boots because it is raining, I feel like it’s pretty logical. Those socks because I always see you wear those socks with boots like that. Your black leggings because I always see you wear leggings with boots like that, and you can pretty much wear black with anything. That shirt because I like it and ... well that’s pretty much it …I like that shirt. Last but not least, these bracelets are to complete the outfit, um, and I think I’ve seen you wear them with that shirt before. Don’t forget the umbrella because it’s gonna rain. (It didn’t actually rain.) I would describe today’s outfit style as lumberjack chic ft. rain boots."

Jake’s Rating: 10/10

My Rating: 10/10 Feeling good about this outfit choice, even though it didn't rain and I was sweating my butt off all day.

Tuesday

Weather: Low of 46. Rain throughout day.

Jake’s Choices

"See, the leggings, they’re gray. And the jacket, it’s blue, and your boots are bluish gray. Because you don’t have a sorority rain jacket this one is our only option. I feel like no one will judge you even though your jacket doesn’t match. You’ll be hunky dory in this jacket. Please don't say hunky dory … I sound like a 50-year-old aunt. The shirt, the leggings and the boots are a good contrast to each other. You have the light shirt, the dark leggings and the medium-to-light boots. The socks are white and they go with everything and they uh … they just look good with the rain boots … I don’t know. (it rained today). The best way I could describe this outfit is that if it rains on your parade, you will be dry."

Jake’s Rating: 10/10

My Rating: 6/10. I don’t think I’ve ever worn this shirt, outside of bed that is.

Wednesday

Weather: High of 63. Sunny and windy.

Jake’s Choices

"I chose jeans because you’ve worn leggings the past two days, and you need to mix it up. I think I want you to wear dark jeans? I think … yeah. Dark jeans. You’re going to wear your Timberlands, because I bought them for you and I think I’ve seen you wear them with jeans. Your feet will be super warm too. I would describe the style of this outfit as stylin’ and high profilin’."

Jake’s Rating: 10/10

My Rating: 5/10 I literally look like a ranch owner.

Thursday

Weather: High of 57. Sunny and windy.

Jake’s Choices

"I chose this shirt because you just got it and I wanted to see you wear it. I picked jeans because they were the best option to wear with the shirt. The Converse just ties it all in because they are red and so is the shirt. The glasses and beanie are to solidify the nerdy hipster look. This outfit style is nerdy/hipster (in the best possible way)."

Jake’s Rating: 10/10

My Rating: 8/10. No real complaints, even though I look like I stepped out of a Disney channel movie.

Friday

Weather: 61 and windy.

Jake’s Choices

"You’re gonna wear this vest because it’s fluffy, light, soft and comfy and I like it and I wish it was mine. I chose this shirt because it is white and black and it matches this vest. And you will wear black leggings, because it matches the shirt. You could wear red socks or white socks. Red socks might look weird. I would say the style of this outfit is very Colorado."

Jake’s Rating: 10/10

My Rating: 7/10 It’s 61 degrees not 40, Jake.

Jake's post-experiment thoughts:

"I feel as if I did better than the ratings I was given. I'm actually pretty salty that it didn't rain on Monday. Mother Nature definitely could've boosted my rating that day if it had rained. This was a lot harder than I thought it would be, I didn't want you to look ridiculous, but I also didn't know how different girls' clothes are from guys' clothes. I went back and forth through your closet at least three times each day trying to find the right outfit. I now understand the struggle."

My Post Experiment Thoughts:

All in all, Jake did a lot better than I thought he would. I was pretty sure he would make me look ridiculous. I was pleasantly surprised, not gonna lie. It was honestly pretty nice waking up in the morning and not having to choose my own outfit. 10/10 would do again.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
