16 Things Only Long-Distance Best Friends Understand

When you imagine growing up with your best friend, little kids do not really think about moving away and learning how to live without their best friend by their side. Still, this doesn't mean you have to stop being their best friend, they now just become your long-distance best friend. Having a best friend is hard, having a best friend that lives hundreds of miles away is even harder. None-the-less, I wouldn't change my long-distance best friend for the world.

1. The initial shock of knowing your best friend is moving away.

2. The feeling you get when you say goodbye to your friend and know you won't see them for a long time.

3. You love and hate seeing your long-distance best friend get new friends.

4. And when that happens, you make it your mission to learn everything about said "new friends."

5. Planning to see each other is quite possibly the hardest thing to do.

6. You find yourself convincing your parents that every Christmas and birthday present should be a plane ticket.

7. Even if you can just squeeze in a day or two, you take the trip.

8. You find yourself saying "We're actually together!" multiple times throughout the day.

9. You two end up doing all of the things you loved together before you were long-distance best friends (which mostly consists of just eating all of your favorite foods).

10. You usually end up spending the whole time gossiping about all of the people you mutually know.

11. When you leave them, you go through the five stages of grief (every time, trust me it does not get easier).

12. You know exactly how many miles are in-between you two.

13. Sometimes you just stalk them on Facebook so you can live vicariously through their life.

14. You hate the people they hate (even if you've never met them before).

15. Your main source of communication is texting, snapchat, or both at the same time.

16. You can't imagine a life without them (even if it is from 582.6 miles away).

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.

Tamatoa created a liar filled with shiny things simply for the purpose of tricking fish to enter and become his food. He too experiences a lesson in how easy it is to be tricked by shiny things when Moana distracts him by covering herself in glowing algae so Maui can grab his hook.
