Journalism. Yay Or Nay?

Why I chose to be a journalism major.

Journalism. Yay Or Nay?

I never really knew much about journalism or thought of it as a potential career choice growing up. Typical career choices came to mind like a princess, a doctor, a teacher, but never a journalist. Even though I never thought of becoming a journalist, I did enjoy watching the news and knowing more about what was happening in the world. I would watch nightly broadcasts like CBS evening news with my family, but I didn’t realize how important the information being fed into my brain was, and how important their jobs were. I realized later on how the news is substantial not only to me but also to my community, by reading or listening to the news. This is one of the reasons why I want to pursue a career in journalism, to bring together communities through truth and understanding. I want to be able to bear witness.

Another reason, among others, is because I love reading and writing, a simple answer to such an extensive field. As an avid reader, I pick up many ideas and thoughts that I can process and think about, then communicate. As a writer, I get to share my thoughts with the world and convey a message while also getting feedback from individuals with various opinions. As a journalist, I get to relay facts and obtain the best obtainable truth while writing different stories affecting local and non-local communities. Bring those three things together and, in my opinion, you get a superhero. Being a journalism major has allowed me to be more open to accepting and listening to different opinions. I learned how the truth is always provisional and it’s always good to stick with the facts while avoiding your own biased opinion. Pursuing a career in journalism has opened the world for me and many doors I never thought about opening. By being a journalist you’re a jack of all trades, knowing little bits of information from all over, and that’s what I see myself as, a jack of all trades, open to learning every day and applying myself by writing about the world we live in, in every way.

By pursuing journalism I feel I have finally found my niche, something I feel good at and only want to develop more. I often say I want to write the world gold not because I want to make it a better place or write propaganda, that's nice and I do enjoy reading and writing about social injustices but that's not what I imply. Writing the world gold to me means making it rich with understanding and knowledge whether it be about different cultures and other different social aspects. My goal is to change the world with people's stories and bring to light both the good and bad while also hopefully traveling this beautiful planet.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
