Finals Week As Told By 'Hamilton'

Throughout the semester we've felt them lurking ahead, creeping closer from day to day. The time has come. Finals are here. Stress is abundant, deadlines are everywhere, sleep is scary, bouts of hysterical crying have become commonplace and exhaustion is rampant.

Fortunately, summer break exists beyond your last final. It will be here soon. It's only a matter of time, but we'll never be free until we finish our exams. Don't worry, though, if Alexander Hamilton can write 51 of the Federalist Papers in six months, you can finish your finals. Here is a breakdown of finals week according to "Hamilton" to get you through the end of the semester.

You start the week motivated and ready to slay all of your finals. You eagerly open your textbooks and start to work.

After studying for a solid five minutes, the siren’s call of Netflix beckons.

You should say no, but you're helpless. You rationalize. One 30-minute episode won’t put you too far behind, plus taking a break might help you to get a fresh perspective.

One episode becomes two. Two become three. You realize that you're running out of time. Disgusted by what you’ve done, you rapidly turn off Netflix, more determined than ever to focus on your upcoming finals.

You acknowledge that you're going to have to study non-stop if you want to pass this exam.

Thoroughly committed to acing your final, you work throughout the night, pulling an all-nighter, determined to make up for lost time.

But your eyelids get heavier and heavier, until you collapse on top of your textbooks.

You haven't slept in a week. You were weak. You were awake. You've never seen a college student more in need of a break...

You awake in a frenzy, 10 minutes before the exam, rushing to get ready while doing some last-minute studying.

Miraculously, you make it to the room where it happens, through the door in time for your exam.

You stride into the room feeling confident. You fly through the pages, eager to finish.

Until you see the questions...

And you quickly think of some alternative life plans.

You finally finish the exam, second-guessing all of your answers as soon as you leave the room.

You return to your dorm, only to start the process again for your remaining exams.

But then you see your grades, and you've passed everyone.

Finally, you finish your last exam, eager to begin your summer break.

How lucky you are to be alive right now.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
