Open Letter To The Drama Society

A club I will never forget

To the club who offered me so much,

I was this shy freshman girl coming into St. Joseph's with the intention of focusing on my studies and getting a feel for the campus life and work load. I finished up my first semester of college feeling very lost, and wondering if I even enjoyed St. Joseph's. I thought about it all throughout Christmas break and decided that if I felt the same way after my spring semester, I was going to look into transferring schools.

I started the semester off still shy and trying to stay focused in school, when one of my friends mentioned that there was going to be auditions for the upcoming show, "Grease." Always wanting to be a part of that show, I figured I'd give it a shot. I was nervous and told the people running the auditions I wanted a small ensemble part, nothing too crazy. I started showing up to rehearsals three times a week, and was instantly filled with a really nice feeling. I finally found a group of people I fit in with, and a group of people who were nice. We worked hard for three months to make "Grease"a great show, which we did. I made some really great new friends and it gave me something to look forward to for the fall semester. It made my spring semester at SJC awesome.

Sophomore year started and the Drama Society performed "12 Angry Jurors." It was different from anything I had ever done, because I had never done a straight play in the past. I really enjoyed hanging out at rehearsals with everyone who I was happy to call my friends, and it was nice to be involved in something other than my school work.

During my junior year, we did "Rumors," which was comical, and by far my favorite show I have ever done. I loved being able to work with the new freshman and the rest of the club to put together this show. It was fun to welcome the freshman who joined our club, the way I was welcomed when I joined the Drama Society.

I am now in my senior year at SJC and looking back at everything over the last four years brings a smile to my face. I am so grateful for the opportunities and experiences being a part of the Drama Society has given me. I am now treasurer of the club and with the help of my fellow board members, we have transformed the Drama Society into more of a family aspect that it had in the past. The fall semester, we put on the show "And Then There Were None," which was one of the biggest hits show wise since I started at SJC. We were so proud of each other, and the club. It really was a wonderful way to begin ending my senior year at SJC.

We are currently working on our spring production, which opens this weekend. It's going to be very bittersweet for me. This will be my last performance with my friends and at SJC. The club I have spent the last four years watching grow and the friends I have made a long the way will never be forgotten, but not having another upcoming semester of rehearsals and shows will be very different.

Thanks so much to the Drama Society and anyone I have met along the way that has made my last four years of college something I am never going to forget. I am forever grateful for all the memories and laughs. Thanks for giving me some of the best friends I will ever find, and some of the most unforgettable memories. When we hit the stage this weekend, though I may be in tears come Saturday night, just know how thankful I am for the experience the Drama Society has given me.

Sincerely,
A very emotional treasurer, senior, and Drama Society member

P.S. Bananas.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
