Finding a way to travel, whether you’re a broke 21-year-old, or a retired 65-year-old, should be a bigger priority in people’s lives. Life is definitely too short to live the same routine day by day with no want or desire to try something new. Although the typical “college-goer” cannot afford to travel to Europe for a week or two, if you want to be able to see different places you will find a way to make it happen. Saving pennies throughout your college years can benefit you when a last-minute trip to Florida comes around with your closest friends. Here are just a few things to remember when trying to make travel a priority:
1. Europe or Austin, TX, it doesn’t matter.
The destination doesn’t necessarily matter. Whether you’re on a plane first class to Europe, or road-tripping through Texas for a weekend in Austin, make the trip matter no matter where the final place may be. Keeping a trip as cheap as possible can be difficult, but is still possible with a little research and couponing.
2. Learning other cultures is ideal.
Learning how other people live in different parts of the world is a major positive when traveling. There is nothing more to ground you as a person than to see how others live, showing you what to appreciate in your life. This alone should be an awakening when deciding whether or not to take the trip you have been saving up for, as well as seeing others who are less fortunate.
3. It can/will introduce you to some of the best people and food (and who doesn’t love food)?
Half the fun of traveling can be the people you meet along the way. I’ve had my fair share of meeting some of the most interesting people on airplanes alone, and all before getting to the destination. Exploring new places and discovering new foods along the way can be a huge eye-opening experience, one that you can pass along to your children and grandchildren.
Being at an age where it is hard to travel, whenever or wherever you want, is hard to cope with. Many might say creating a bucket list is a good idea, and I definitely agree. So keep creating those Pinterest boards full of places to see and food to try, because you never know when an opportunity might come to see the world.
