50 Thoughts That Are Running Through My Mind Before Recruitment

So as we all know, we are all gearing towards recruitment, and that only means one thing. It’s time to smile so much your face feels like it’s about to fall off, and sing till the point you lose your voice.

This year being the first year I am participating in formal recruitment, I don’t even know where to begin with everything I have learned this past perfection week. 50 different things are running through my mind such as:

1. I forgot a dance move… let me just stand here and smile... do I look awkward? I probably do…

2. That PNM just made a weird face at me, does she hate me? She probably does.

3. Does my breath stink? I probably could use a mint. Whatever, I’ll just have bad breath for all of eternity.

4. OMG someone farted, it smells... we’re all close together…okay; I’ll hold my breath! Nope… it still smells.

5. Okay here we go, I’m going to remember her name. Her name was definitely not Cady Heron.

6. Why is it like a billion degrees in this room! I hope I don’t have a huge sweat stain on my back. It’s there isn’t it?

7. Oops I forgot to put on deodorant… whatever I’ll just blame the bad smell on the girl next to me.

8. I think my legs are about fall off

9. Am I supposed to be bouncing this much?

10. Is this really only the second party…

11. God my feet hurt. Wait, you can still feel your feet?

12. Okay, it’s time to get my girl flirt on.

13. My PNM is staring at me awkwardly… why is se not saying anything?

14. You’re from New Jersey also! I’m from Jersey!

15. Finally I have something to relate to, she’s now my rush crush.

16. Why didn’t my rush crush come back today?! Day ruined.

17. I look fabulous today.

18. Of course this is the day the air conditioning decides NOT to work.

19. I’m dying of thirst.

20. When was the last time I ate a meal? Oh wait... I did have that piece of lettuce four hours ago.

21. Okay why did no one come to bump me?

22. Someone has to come and bump me. I have literally been talking to this girl about bugs for the past hour.

23. How did bugs come into the conversation?

24. Okay no one is coming.

25. I don’t think I asked for her name. What is her name?!

26. So… Brittany how’s it going?!

27. That’s still not her name.

28. Okay pull yourself together.

29. Why is my hair sticking up like that? Let me try and fix it; well that looks way worse now.

30. And the doors are open.

31. Oh good… that girl looks way worse than I do!

32. Why is my PNM prettier than I am?

33. She is flawless…  and here comes rush crush number two.

34. You came back to me!

35. You will now be my future little. I’ve decided.

36. Okay focus on her.

37. What’s your favorite food?

38. Chipotle!

39. Did we just become best friends?

40. Wait, the bell just rang...don't leave me!

41. FINALLY the day is over.

42. Are my feet supposed to be this swollen?

43. And i've hit my bed.

44. Okay i have to get up and move some time.

45. Okay i'll get up now.

46. But maybe i'll stay here just a few minutes longer.

47. FOOD!

48. I am about to eat like I haven't eaten in days. No shame whatsoever.

49. And here comes my food coma.

50. Yep, It's eternal. It's time to slowly drift off into an endless sleep. I dont plan on waking up for the next few days.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
