20 Quotes That Every 20 Year Old Needs To Read

I remember being about ten years old and watching movie after movie featuring the same type of people—people in their twenties. I developed this romanticized idea that from ages 20–29 life was super awesome all the time. Now that I am at the tip of the ten-year iceberg known as my twenties, I have realized that simply is not true. Our twenties are a lot of things. Sometimes they are awesome. Sometimes they are ugly. Sometimes they are fun. Sometimes they are painful. Sometimes they are confusing. Sometimes they are enlightening. But one thing is for sure… they are anything BUT easy.

On Love…

“It’s better to have nobody than someone who is half there, or who doesn’t want to be there.”

- Angelina Jolie

“People say a lot of things in summer that they do not mean in winter.”

- Unknown

“You can tell so much about a person by the way they leave you.”

- Redvers Bailey

“I will not be your sometimes.”

- Anonymous, Six Word Stories

“I think that we got so close, there was no choice but to tear ourselves away from each other. We’re too young and maybe one day, we’ll be perfect for each other again, and every mistake we ever made will let us fall into place with one another. Maybe one day we can do this again.”

- Unknown

On Self…

“The hours between 12 AM and 6 AM have a funny habit of making you feel like you’re either on top of the world or under it.”

- Unknown

“I crave space. It charges my batteries. It helps me breathe. Being around people can be so exhausting, because most of them love to take and barely know how to give. Except for a rare few.”

- Katie Kacvinsky

“However you dress, wherever you go, yes means yes, and no means no.”

- Unknown

"The moment you feel like you have to prove your worth to someone is the moment to absolutely and utterly walk away.”

- Alysia Harris

“Give yourself permission to immediately walk away from anything that gives you bad vibes. There is no need to explain or make sense of it. Just trust what you feel.”

- Sonia Chuquette

On Moving Forward…

“Nothing ever happens how you imagine it will.”

- John Green

“Suddenly you’re 21 and you’re screaming along in the car to all the songs you listened to when you were sad in middle school and everything is different but everything is good.”

- Unknown

“There had been too much emotion, too much damage, too much everything.”

- Ernest Hemingway

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but building the new.”

- Socrates

“It is what it is. It was what it was.”

- Unknown

On Success…

“If you don’t make time to work on creating the life you want, you’re eventually going to be forced to spend a LOT of time dealing with a life you DON’T want.”

- Kevin Ngo

“A fully open mind could shatter the skull in both directions.”

- Henry Flynt

“We can judge our progress by the courage of our questions and the depth of our answers, our willingness to embrace what is true rather than what feels good.”

- Carl Sagan

“Surround yourself with people who are only going to lift you higher.”

- Oprah Winfrey

“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation.”

- John Wooden

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
