Stages of Growing Up as Told by Spongebob Squarepants

I'm an adult, I swear...

There will be a day when you wake up and you realize that you are no longer a kid. You have to get a job. You have to pay some bills. Someone talks about a 401K. Well, what better way to describe the stages of growing up than with a cartoon (because we're totally adults)? Here are the stages of adulthood, as told by our good friend Spongebob.

One day, you wake up and realize your imagination isn't what it used to be...

You remember the day you had to start getting more serious about school. And taking the SATs had you like:

You remember waiting for college acceptance letters.

Freshman year, you thought you were all that.

You've had your first crazy night in college.

And your first massive hangover that you had to pretend not to have while you sat in class or work.

You knew you were growing up when you did your own laundry for the first time.

You felt like this after your first couple of years in college.

When you turned in your last paper EVER. It was bittersweet because you were done, but you looked like this:

You'll know you're getting older when this becomes your every dream.

And when you fondly remember the college days that had you like this:

When now most days feel like this:

You remember when you got your first paycheck.

And you realize the adult struggle when you feel fancy after getting paid, but then you look at your bank statement.

You'll know adulthood when it seems like everyone is always trying to sell you something...

But when you buy things now, you only look for sales and bargain prices.

You're getting older when you realize that you have to start eating healthier (or else those burgers would go straight to your thighs, and then you'd blow up).

And you had to start cooking real food...like VEGETABLES.

But you are still overjoyed (and gluttonous) when you visit your parents and they make you food...

Or take you grocery shopping.

And you constantly ask them for all of their recipes, because now you actually have to cook.

You'll know things are changing when you take control over your health and decide to work out regularly.

And on the day you decide to stop worrying about petty, insignificant drama, you'll become a little wiser.

One day, things teenagers say will just stop making any sense, and your interactions with them will feel more like this because you have to Google their slang.

Instead of that "kid stuff," you start taking real time to think about what you want to do in life.

Then suddenly, you realize everyone around you is getting married and having children, so you start asking the important questions

And finally you will know you're growing up when you wake up one day and time just feels like this:

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
