As a young woman, I have felt consistently guilty about even considering voting for someone besides a "fellow woman." Hillary Clinton has gained a steady following of women, so desperate to see one of their own enter the White House, that they do not seem to care who it is as long as they are successful. "I'm voting for Hillary because she's a woman, how could I not?" This is something I've heard many women my age say. We have all seen proof of Hillary Clinton's inconsistency. Regardless of her political agenda and my own feelings towards her email scandal, untrue "recollections" of foreign events, and wavering policies (NAFTA, gay marriage, etc), there is one simple reason why I will NOT vote for Hillary Clinton this November: She defended a child rapist, degraded the victim, and laughed about it on tape.
In 1975, Hillary Clinton defended a man who was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl who was in a coma for five days afterwards. Of course, it can be argued that Hillary was simply doing her job as a young lawyer, but this is simply not the case. On a released audio tape, Clinton speaks about how her client took and passed a polygraph test and laughed, saying it "forever destroyed my faith in polygraphs." In 1975 Hillary Clinton KNEW that her client had raped a young, innocent girl and today she claims to be for women.
In the case, Hillary attacked the young victim questioning her credibility and claiming that the girl was "emotionally unstable." Additionally, Clinton accused the victim of having a "tendency to seek out older men and engage in fantasizing." Hillary went past her role as defendant and attacked a young girls credibility and degraded her as a person.
In this tape, Clinton speaks about her defense tactics as well as well as how her clients "blood-soaked underwear" returned to evidence "with a hole," implying that she removed the evidence to get it thrown out in court. In this recording, Clinton laughs multiple times. If a voter hearing this recording believes that Hillary was "simply doing her job," I encourage them to consider what this evidence means about Clinton's morals, ethics, and character as well as her opinion of women.
Hillary Clinton is not a vote for all women. Her client, who should have received a 30 year sentence, got off with a one year sentence reduced with two months time served. Someday, I will be proud to cast my ballot for a woman. I look forward to the day when a woman leads my country. However, my desire for a female leader does NOT mean that I will vote for a woman like Hillary Clinton. I need a president that will defend me, not only as an American but also as a woman, something Hillary Clinton is clearly not willing to do.
