Why Rutgers Is The Best University In New Jersey

Welcome to Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, home of the Scarlet Knights, where we bleed scarlet and run on pride. Rutgers is not only the largest and most centrally located school in New Jersey, it's also the best. Rutgers does an amazing job at providing great academics, athletics and an overall college experience.

Below we'll take a tour to showcase how RU really lives up to their State University name.

First Stop: Busch Campus
A hidden favorite for students on Busch campus is a little place called Woody's. They offer many different meals and snacks which can be bought with a meal swipe. Rumor has it, they even allow students to purchase pints of Ben & Jerry's with their meal swipes!

Busch is also the home of High Point Solutions Stadium, where over 52,000 fans gather on weekends in the fall to cheer on our Scarlet Knight football players. Between the infamous marching band and our always peppy cheerleading team, the energy is electric!

Next Stop: Livingston Campus
Rutgers wouldn't be complete without an on-campus diner, which can be found on Livingston Campus. Henry's Diner, a favorite among many students, is known for their milkshakes and fun atmosphere, and there's nowhere better to grab some pancakes!

While Rutgers is not the only university in New Jersey with a diner on campus, we are the only school with an on-campus movie theater! Not only is the theater conveniently located, it also has affordable student prices! Where else could you see a movie for $5.50 a ticket?!

Third Stop: College Avenue Campus
The infamous RU Hungry trucks or located on College Avenue. The sandwiches sold here are your mothers worst nightmare. All those times she nagged you to eat your vegetables as a child go right out the window after you take your first bite of a fat sandwich. These sandwiches often contain chicken fingers, french fries, mozzarella sticks and many other fried food options all piled onto a roll.

Also on College Ave are the Homecoming Bed Races, hosted by the Rutgers Programming Association. This event takes place once a year, and many of the 400 student organizations on campus choose to participate. Each team works to decorate a bed how ever they would like and then race down the largest road on College Ave Campus. The friendly competition often leads to a large student turnout and many laughs.

Final Stop: Cook/Douglass Campus
Known as the more rural of the four campuses, Cook is home to Rutgers' very own farm! There's nothing cooler than seeing the cows, goats and horses while riding on the bus. Some students even choose to work along with the Department of Animal Sciences to feed the animals.

Found on Douglass Campus is a spot known as Passion Puddle, where many students love studying outside on the lawn. There is also the legend that, "if a male student from Cook College and a Douglass College woman held hands and walked around the pond three times, they would be married and live happily ever after."

Thanks to these four extremely diverse campuses and all the opportunities at Rutgers, we are able to call the Scarlet Knights members of the best university in the state.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
