It's not all fun and games.

Ahhhh spring break is finally here! Time to relax, travel the world, party, and not worry about school! Oh wait, I forgot, I can’t do any of those things. Actually, there are tons of college students who are in the exact same boat. Let’s take a look at what spring break really means to the majority of college students.

1. Work!

For most students who have a job, going on break means taking a rest from the part-time work life, to enjoy a long and luxurious 40 hour and above work week! For me, that would mean about a 56 hour work week. It also means no sleeping in. Don’t get me wrong, this is not necessarily a bad thing! This is the time where I can get in as many hours as I can, and save up as much as I can for school. Going on breaks like these are important so that finances are not as tight when school starts back up.

2. Visiting your old high school.

For me, this may or may not happen. I hope it does though. A lot of college students take advantage of the time they have back home to go and say, "Hi," to some of their old teachers. High school teachers played a huge role in many college students lives. It’s nice to go back and let them know how things are going. Usually, teachers are genuinely happy to get a visit from their old students.

3. Being with your family.

After being away from your family for so long, it can be nice to be back at home for awhile. I, for one, missed my parents like crazy! It’s great to be able to see them. It’s also an added bonus to get homemade meals from them again. I had my dad’s spaghetti just last night. It was amazing. It’s also great to get to talk to my family. Having a conversation with them face to face is much better than over the phone. In general, it’s just nice to be home. It’s nice to walk into a house of people who love me and who have missed me.

4. Seeing your pets.

You don’t really realize how much you will miss your pets until you have been gone from them for a long time. I have two cats, and although they can sometimes be a pain in the butt, they are also part of my family. Having them come up to me and wanting me to pet them just melted my heart. I am so glad that I get this time to see them.

5. A little bit of extra time.

The nice thing about spring break is that you do get a little extra time for fun! After work, those night times are usually free because there is finally no homework to worry about. There’s time to do some art, play some video games, and hang out with friends. The possibilities aren’t really endless because hey, you do have work in the morning; but enjoy the time you do have.

So, spring break may not be all fun and games. For most, spring break in the movies is just a dream. There are a lucky few who get the opportunity to go out and truly make spring break a time to remember, but as for the rest of us, let’s just make the best with what we’ve got.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
