No one likes getting sick. It is even worse when you're away at school and have no one to take care of you. Here are nine thoughts you have when you're sick at college.
1. I need my mom.
How do you properly use a thermometer? How many times a day can you take cough syrup? You want soup, but can't get out of bed. Help!
2. I'm fine.
You're sitting in class with snot running down your face and clumps of tissues in your hands. Every time you breathe, you cough. But it's just a cold and will go away in a couple days, right? Right?
3. How do you know when you need to go to the doctor?
At home, your mom always knew that magical time when you needed to go visit the doctor. At college, you tend to wait until you can barely sit up in the morning.
4. I'm going to die.
You made the mistake of searching your symptoms on WebMD. It's a really bad mistake to make. Take deep breaths and just go to the student health center.
5. Who can I get to go the doctor with me?
The doctor is scary, and sometimes you end up having to get shots or blood work done. Who's going to hold your hand and tell you it's going to be okay? Refer back to number one: "I need my mom!"
6. Does a sore throat always mean strep throat?
It hurts! But is it just drainage or is the nurse going to have to violate my throat with one of those cotton swab things?
7. How sick is too sick to go to class?
Some professors tell you not to come if you're sniffling while some expect you there if you've got pneumonia. How do you differentiate?
8. I don't want anyone to see me blow my nose.
Your nose is running, but you don't want to be that gross kid who keeps swiping at their nose in class, and running to the bathroom every 10 minutes is annoying your professor. There's no winning.
9. I look like crap.
There's no point to putting on makeup or wearing anything other than sweatpants. Looking cute is simply not an option.
Drink a lot of fluids and go back to sleep.
