Your Gymless Fitness Plan

21

I feel you. It's getting way to hot to run outside or even to walk through that sweltering gym parking lot.

Check out these gymless workout options, so you can tighten up without melting down.

Push-ups. You can fit at least 30 a day, easy. They can be done anywhere, anytime. Yes, that means in a hallway or in the kitchenette waiting for your popcorn to pop. Afraid people will stare in disgust? Suck it up. The only person you have to worry about is yourself. People’s opinions of you will always change. Do yourself a favor, lets see a few push-ups.

Squats. Same goes for squats. Shoot for 100 a day. Great for core, booty and the general buns and thighs. Squats are the go-to for the pussy who isn’t man enough to get down and dirty into push-up position. You can even play this one off like you were just picking something up, nobody will even know you’re sneaking a workout in. Just keep squatting away while waiting for that popcorn and when someone walks in, whistle innocently.

Cardio. Yes, it is possible!  Try this:

1 minute squat jumps

1 minute high knees

30 seconds hop on one foot 30 seconds hop on the other foot

1 minute mountain climbers

1 minute burpees.

It’s only 5 minutes. I guarantee a tighter tummy and sweaty armpits! Take a break after each five minute round and try to do it three times.  Easy, fast. Get it done
.

Posture. If you can’t do anything, you can always be improving your posture. This means engaging your core and drawing your shoulders down and back. Imagine a string pulling you up from the top of your head. This will tighten your core without even noticing and will also prevent back and postural issues later in life! Practice better posture as you walk, sit, stand and eat.

Yoga. Yoga benefits everyone, especially men, who tend to under stretch and have incredibly tight hamstrings and hip flexors. Look up a yoga flow on YouTube. You’d be surprised how challenging some poses are. Yoga gets intense mofos. Lately, I’ve been having fun working on handstands and other balance poses – great for core, all around muscle tone and gets your heart rate up a little.

If it’s important to you, you’ll find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse. Every day brings another chance. The harder the challenge, the better the opportunity. Live passionately – go hard, dream big!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
