While we were busy last spring calculating the minimum grade needed on finals to pass our classes and having the somber realization that we should have tried a tad harder here and there, the Internet was hit with something that changed Greek life forever. This, of course, was the creation of sorority Tumblr pages. If you claim that you haven’t checked out at least 5 different pages, you’re a liar. If these girls are proud enough to show off how pretty/popular/interesting their girls are to the entire Internet, then as fraternity men it is our duty to dive into the countless pictures they post.
While I’m a big fan of these Tumblrs, it seems like there’s a basic format to the pages. Of course each sorority is unique in their girls, but there are 4 standard pictures that you will see in every single Tumblr. Those would include the bid day pic, spring break poses, the Halloween costume, and finally the America montage.
Bid Day: These dominate the Tumblr page. Every girl seems to look ecstatic about their new members. Newly recruited sorority girls hold signs with their names and matching shirts are passed around by all. It marks the beginning of a lifetime of friendship and debauchery so obviously there needs to be a copious amount of pictures to document the event.
Spring Break: The goal here is to convince viewers that their house has the best spring breaks EVER every year. There are a few types of spring break poses in this category, which includes the introspective sunset picture, and the “lets all laugh and pretend to not realize we’re getting our picture taken.” The countless girls in swimsuits, beautiful beaches, and unbelievable party shots make this category a fan favorite.
Halloween: Everyone loves dressing up and getting weird for Halloween, and this seems to be a national holiday for college girls. These pictures show the unbelievable creativity that sorority women have. From Disney princess adaptations to various public officers like firemen and police officers, there really aren’t any costumes that girls cannot pull off with incredible ease.
America: This is easily my favorite category. As a big USA enthusiast it is refreshing to see that the beautiful girls at Purdue share this love for the best country in the world. Whether it’s a flag, some shorts they made from a Pinterest post, or an American flag themed swimsuit, I’m a fan of these girls and their patriotism.
There are two types of people in this world: those who love the sorority Tumblrs and those whose opinions are irrelevant. It’s cool to see the sisterhood that sorority girls have behind the scene that fraternity guys don’t see all the time. It’s also a constant reminder that Purdue is home to countless beautiful women who are very proud of their chapters. Keep doing what you’re doing girls.
