On Thursday, January 14th, both wizards and muggles alike came together to mourn the loss of one of their own. Alan Rickman, known for his role as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter series, lost a brave battle to cancer. Rickman made my wildest childhood dreams come alive as the Potion's Master. Rickman's version of Snape was much easier to pity than the much darker, scarier one author J.K. Rowling painted in the book series. While he did portray a man I wouldn't want to cross, he also allowed Snape's sad past that was meant to soften his views of Harry come peeking through the cracks. If only Harry, or Hermione, or even Neville would have been able to brew a potion to cure Alan Rickman of his cancer. The world will be a little less bright without him. However, I think it is important that in memory of the talented actor, we highlight his best moments as the beloved, or not so beloved, Professor Snape.
1. Page 394 - A page we will never forget.
2. The first time Harry and Snape meet and Snape gives Harry a crazy amount of side-eye.
3. That time you thought Snape was trying to kill Harry, but as it turns out he was trying to save him.
Snape is muttering! He must be trying to kill Harry! Oh, just wait for the plot twist.
4. The numerous amount of times Snape never snapped on Harry for acting like his father.
That had to take some serious self control. Harry knew how to throw shade.
5. But Snape always knew just how to get back at Harry.
So much sass. Thank you.
6. We learned Snape couldn't be pure evil if he could sass Satan in human form.
Anyone who despises Umbridge is as good in my book.
7. The time he agreed to teach Harry Occlumency.
Snape knew that if Harry mastered Occlumency he would be able to keep Voldemort, a.k.a. his boss, from reading his mind. Yet he did it anyway. Curious isn't it?
8. Let's not forget the time he had the perfect opportunity to kill Sirius but he didn't.
Sirius and his friends tortured Snape when they were kids. Snape even believed that Sirius was the reason Lilly was dead. Yet he didn't take a few seconds to Averda Kaverda him when he had the chance. This small mistake makes it possible for us to trust Sirius.
9.That time Snape's confession blew your mind.
Forget how fabulously his hair is blowing, did he just say what I think he said?
10. The time he admitted he started to like Harry, and blew your mind again.
Maybe he does have a heart after all. Also can we talk about the fact that we should all be upset by Dumbledore's revelation?
11. The time he killed Dumbledore.
I'm trying to type through the tears. Though now that I think about it, I wouldn't have wanted Dumbledore to die by anyone else.
12. And now I present to you the saddest moment in the history of the Earth.
It doesn't get much happier from here folks.
13. The time we learned the things that made all of Snape's actions make sense.
Are you still crying? Because I am.
14. And finally, the time we learned about Snape's undying love for Lilly.
Can you say plot twist? Snape was just trying to protect his lost love's son all along.
Whether you loved or hated Snape, there is no denying that Alan Rickman was the perfect person to play him. No one else would be able to recreate the purr of his voice or his sassy smirks. Though I have never seen any of his other movies, I am sure he was just as perfect in those roles. Thank you, Alan Rickman, for making all my dreams come true. We raise our wands to you, always.
