Only My High School Friends Understand

It is a struggle to get your college friends to understand your life pre-college. However, your high school friends understand it all. High school friends know you like the backs of their hands. They were there for your first slumber party, first crush, first driving experience, first day of school, etc. No one knows us better then our high school best friends.

I was sheltered as a child. Your college friends may not know all that entailed. Your high school friends know because they had to suffer through it with you. They know that it was traumatic enough to stick with you to this day.

Okay, so what is the story we tell our moms! When you could not get away with anything because all of your moms were BFFs, you still tried.

Just how amazing that crappy Mexican restaurant is. We all rave about it to our college friends. However, when they come to our hometown and eat there, they just don't understand.

Your taste in music. Well, that's just what we listened to in high school.

What it was like to attend a high school party in your hometown. You just had to be there to understand.

When your high school art teacher gets with the math teacher. You freak out; no one gets it. Text your high school friends; they all freak out and you all make jokes about it for hours. This goes for any hometown drama.

When your pet dies. They knew your dog or cat or fish, etc., on a personal level, too.

Hatred for certain foods and alcoholic beverages. I was drinking that the night that... Your high school best friends can finish that sentence for you.

Your nickname. The nickname that seems to have nothing to do with you but, oh, yes it does.

Just how terrible the ex-boyfriend or girlfriend really is. I still don't like him because of what he said to you that day in the cafeteria in the tenth grade.

The awkward tension that occurred when around those who attended a different high school in your hometown. It was as if they were another species.

What you were like in middle school. Your high school friends know and love reminding you how weird you were.

When the whole crew is back together. Sucks for a college friend to be around for that. They will not have the slightest clue what you all are talking about.

High school friends know just what to say in any situation. They understand your mood swings and are the only ones allowed to call you out for them.

What it is like to be part of your family. They have attended family vacations and family dinners; they call your grandma Nana, they have been scolded by your parents, and they yell at your siblings, too.

As much as you cherish and love your college friends, there is no comparison to the bond of high school friendships.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
