Oklahoma Tops Texas

Oklahoma Tops Texas

The feud between Oklahoma and Texas has only one clear winner. If you know one thing, you know that Texans love Texas. They love to be from Texas, they love to talk about Texas and they have a laundry list of reasons of why Texas is greater than anything else in this entire world. But, this is Oklahoma and Texas just sucks. This is in no way related to OU/TX, but if you thought it was I won't deny it. I am not biased. Oklahoma is just better than Texas.  And I am going to tell you why.

Oklahomans are nice.  It is so rare to find good, genuine and caring people in this world, and Oklahoma has an entire state full of them.  You need a door opened for you? Got it.  You are going through a tough time? Prayers and homemade meals are heading your way. Need to chat?  Life advice, deep conversation, and laughter is just a phone call away. Generosity flows abundantly in this great state, and that is something I do not take for granted.

Austin is weird and they advertise it, themselves. Even Texas knows that Oklahoma is better.

Not counting weddings and homecomings, nothing makes my eyes water like an OU football introduction video. The heart pounding, tear jerking, emotional rollercoaster that ends with a strong burst of pride would be enough to bring you to your knees, if not for the obligation you feel to stand and show your support of the team. There is tradition, leadership, and resounding confidence emitted from that video that fills the hearts of all OU fans. We just do it better.

If we are going to stay on the topic of football, let’s just talk about Trevor Knight for a hot second.  We all know he has a girlfriend, but if Katy Perry can ask him to call her, I can briefly write about him for my small handful of readers. That jaw line! It is strong, it is mature and it is wise beyond its years -- all things that Texas is not and will forever hope to be.  Sorry guys, even our Trevor’s jaw-line is better than you.

Do we even need to talk about that burnt orange? Probably not.

Back to football. We have more national championships, more Heisman winners, more All-Americans. We win, Texas loses. But, we already knew that.

Even if we’re not talking about football, OU does it better. Yes, OU parking is not the shining moment of anyone’s day, but it still beats Texas’ parking.  We have a better professor-to-student ratio, which is important regarding learning and becoming positive members of society, and we all know that Texas students are not such members.  And, yeah, we are smaller, but that just means better relationships for you, but still having all the opportunities of any other campus. This brings me to OU’s (David Boren’s) pride and joy -- National Merit Scholars and study abroad. OU has the most, and we have the best programs.  Need I say more?

All in all, Oklahoma is the greatest. Oklahoma is more than OK, it’s home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
