Greek of the Week: Kelsi Hildreth

It is not a difficult task to simply go through the motions and float through college. On the other hand, leaving a mark amidst tens of thousands of students is not easy. Many people attend Oklahoma State University; only a few do it like Kelsi Hildreth.

Hildreth is a senior from Southlake, TX. She is working towards a major in International Business with minors in Spanish, Marketing and Management. Hildreth is a member of Gamma Phi Beta and has held a position within her chapter every year that she has been a member. She is currently serving as Membership Vice President.

“Being on Gamma Phi’s executive team and recruitment have by far been some of the best experiences I’ve had during my time at college,” Hildreth said. Kelsi loves giving back to her house and knows that she would not be able to make it if she did not have her sisters as her constant support system.

Outside of Gamma Phi, Hildreth is also very involved on campus. This year, Hildreth is one of ten students selected to serve as Oklahoma State Homecoming executives. As a homecoming executive, Hildreth assisted in coordinating all facets of homecoming. Over 85,000 alumni who will attend will enjoy the work that is done by the Homecoming Executive Committee. Hildreth was responsible for organizing Homecoming competitions with over 60 campus living groups and student organizations, as well as recruiting judges for each of these events.

“I could not be luckier to get to work with my fellow team," Hildreth said. "They make every meeting and each hour spent working towards Homecoming worth it!”

Hildreth is also the recruitment executive for Oklahoma State Dance Marathon, a position she's held since 2011. She has recruited over 1,100 participants to attend the 12-hour Dance Marathon event in order to raise funds and “dance for kids who can’t.” She assisted Dance Marathon in fundraising over $75,000 to benefit the Children’s Miracle Foundation in Oklahoma City, OK.

Hildreth also serves on the Student Alumni Board for the OSU alumni Association. The student Alumni Board is a selective program, which gives tours to prospective students, conducts leadership seminars and Scholar Days, and represents the student body assisting with career fairs and OSU programs. Hildreth has also been on the Varsity Revue Steering Committee, and gives as a Service Learning Volunteer Center Ambassador.

Aside from everything that Hildreth has contributed to OSU, she knows that this school and the Greek community have also forever changed who she is. “Dance Marathon in particular has monumentally helped me to find my passion and realize what my future dream job really would be – like working for a children’s hospital – and for that I will be so forever thankful,” she said.

Amongst everything that Hildreth is involved in, she is still able to maintain a 4.0 GPA. She is on the President’s Honor Roll, the Dean’s List, and is in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

It will be a loss when Hildreth graduates and leaves Oklahoma State, but this campus will forever remember her time here.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
