An Open Letter To My Former Best Friend

Not all best friends can last forever.

An Open Letter To My Former Best Friend

To My Ex-BFF,

First, I really hope you actually read this.

I am writing this letter because I want you to know that I do not hate you. I never have. I never will.

I want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being such a good friend to me. I want to thank you for all the fun times we had and all the lessons I learned along the way. I hope I was as good of a friend to you too.

You and I were inseparable. We were like sisters and got along so well. It was a natural connection that was so easy. We were relatively like-minded, and our personalities matched. We were instant friends, and soon after that, we were best friends. We would stay up laughing, telling secrets and just enjoying life and our friendship. I will always be grateful for those memories.

In those few years we went through a lot, especially as high schoolers. From break-ups to make-ups, to triumphs and loss, we were there for each other.

To be honest, I do not understand what happened between us, and I wonder if you do. I do not know what happened to our friendship. It seemed like just as quickly as it started, it ended. I doubt that the physical distance between us was the reason why our friendship ended. I was so confused. I thought you would be my friend for life.

It has been three years since we last spoke. We have both gone our separate ways, found happiness and success. I am truly happy for you and where you are in your life. I just wish we could actually talk about it with each other rather than just seeing updates on Facebook or hearing information from other sources. You are doing great things, and even though we are not best friends, or even friends at all, I am still proud of you. I am still happy for you.

I am thankful that you were in my life, even if for only those two-and-a-half years. You were my best friend, and I have learned so much from that relationship. Like I said, I will never hate you. And I hope you do not hate me. No matter where life takes us, just know that I am always rooting for you.

Thanks again, for being a friend.

All The Best,
Your Ex-BFF

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
