Getting Ready For The NFL Draft

You may or may not realize that the NFL draft starts this Thursday. This is me telling you that it does, 8pm EST, sharp! As an ATL girl, I must talk about my good ole dirty birds, but there are some notes regarding other teams that will be picking their next round of rookies.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams are the first the pick Thursday, because they were one of the worst teams in the league during the 2015 season with a 7-9 record (but they actually traded with the Tennessee Titans for the #1 pick). Does that name sound off to you? If you are anywhere around my age or younger, you know them as the St. Louis Rams. Like a lot of professional sports team, they move around a bit. The rams started in Cleveland, moved to L.A., then to St. Louis for the past 20 years and now have ended back in L.A. People in the L.A. area are thoroughly excited to have a professional football team back. Get excited!

Cleveland Browns

The Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel (aka Johnny Football) was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2014. Remember that? Manziel was the wild hot shot quarterback that people thought was going to be the next Tom Brady or a total bust. If you haven’t heard, he is currently a total bust. Manziel was recently released by the Browns, shacked up with suspended Brown player Josh Gordon in Los Angeles, and is well on his way to jail, that is if death doesn’t strike him first. He is a total winner. With Manziel and Gordon’s issues, the Browns might want to think extra carefully before committing to a new player. Just putting it out there.

Cleveland Browns (Wide Receiver)

Like stated in #2, Josh Gordon is currently suspended and has an extremely low chance of playing in the 2016 season. Gordon, along with Manziel, has been in L.A., doing the party scene and living it up a little too hard at Coachella. Even if Gordon stays out of legal trouble, and alive, the Browns are still going to need to browse for his replacement. The rookie they choose might end up with a permanent position if Gordon doesn’t get it together. From what has happened to Manziel, I think the Browns would be better to call it off now rather than later.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons currently are scheduled to have the 17th pick of the night. People may or may not be super excited about what Thomas Dimitroff does, however, some fans still have a sour taste in their mouth after Dimitroff went for all the marbles in 2011. For some reason, Dimitroff thought Julio Jones was worth a total of 5 future draft picks, including the first round pick for the following year. Ask around, as good as Julio can be, he wasn’t worth that. Good job ole sport. Word on the street is that the Falcons will be picking up an offensive linebacker first, a red-shirt sophomore from Ohio State. Reviews are all good, but they always are at this time. This is when we hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Atlanta Falcons (wide receiver)

The majority of Falcons’ fans shed a little tear in March when we heard they said “bye Felicia” to Roddy White. Roddy was getting up there in age for a football player, especially a wide receiver, but I firmly believe he still had some strength left. It was really upsetting because now we lack a stable partner for Julio Jones. It makes us all nervous just thinking of what the team might do with the roster vacancy.

Atlanta Falcons (Quarterback)

I think Matt Ryan has great potential but even Matt gets sacked a lot, if you didn’t notice. Like a lot! As he gets older, he will not be taking those sacks as well. There is no telling when he will get hurt and the severity. He is aging and no one cares to protect him. Yes, we have back-ups but from what we seen, they aren’t great. It would be exciting for the Falcons to get a purely talented quarterback that can learn under Matt Ryan and then shine when his time comes.

Atlanta Falcons (Offensive Lineman)

Like I said, Matt Ryan has to have players around him that protects him from the 350lb men charging for him. People have asked someone to stop making Ryan pay for the sins of Atlanta almost every play. Matt Ryan dances, and most definitely not with joy, as he consistently is running for his life. He is too busy scrambling like a mad man to even focus on throwing the ball to a receiver. It’s a fail-fail situation. Please get someone that can actually stay healthy and do their job! These men get paid millions to protect poor Matt, but I feel like I could do a much better job 100% of the time.

Atlanta Falcons (Defensive anything)

After the Super Bowl in 2015, the Falcons broke up with Mike Smith and said “oh, hello there” to Dan Quinn. Dan Quinn came from the Seattle Seahawks who had just won the Super Bowl. He was the defensive coordinator and all the Falcons’ fans said YASSS. Just what we needed, too bad that defensive stuff didn’t work out his first year. Grace will come into play, but we expect some good defensive rookies, along with some improvements with the roster we currently have.

Denver Broncos (Quarterback)

Peyton Manning bowed out of the game just weeks after winning his second Super Bowl. Peyton will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks and players of all time. He was a unique player that actually preferred to stay out of the lime-light (maybe he should give some pointers to Manziel and Gordon).

Denver Broncos (Outside Linebacker)

When you win the Super Bowl, you crown an MVP of the game. Although some people would’ve liked Peyton to win, it rightfully went to Von Miller. Even if you are not into football, you know that name because he is currently on Dancing with the Stars, partnered with Witney Carson McCallister. March 1st, the Broncos placed a franchise tag on Miller, which may be seen as a kiss of death. Although the Broncos do not necessarily need an OLB, it would not be a bad idea to be bringing one up now for stardom later.

New England Patriots

The Pats are sans a first round draft pick this year. Their first chance will not be until the 29th pick unless they trade up. This most likely will not happen because they simply do not need to. I am an out and proud Patriots hater. I love that the Patriots won’t be getting a first round pick. The Pats just reload and reload. It gets upsetting because here in Atlanta it's solely rebuild and rebuild.

With an overly thorough pre-draft report, you are well equipped to grab the popcorn and maybe some beer and listen to Roger Goodell say some words and be awkward. Former stars announce some names of 20-year-olds, and the sounds of yelling, screaming and un-adult things. You’re so very welcome.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
