I think that 20th Century Fox's "Deadpool" will be a box office success and here's why.

Within past years, movie theaters have been flooded by superhero films ... I'm willing to go as far back as Toby Maguire's "Spider-Man" in 2002. There has been no shortage of these movies, especial with Marvel's master plan well underway dating back to the first "Iron Man" in 2008. Since 2008, Marvel Studios alone has released twelve other movies, added together with 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" movies, Sony and Columbia's "The Amazing Spiderman," and Warner Brother's "Dark Knight Trilogy."

I, personally, think that "The Dark Knight" trilogy stands out the most of all of these. "The Dark Knight Rises" alone, in its opening weekend, brought over $160,000,000 to United States box offices, according to IMDB. I heard somewhere once that "The Dark Knight" trilogy made more money than any lone superhero film Marvel has released.

According to IMDB:

"Iron Man," in its opening weekend in the States, had the box office success of just over $98,000,000.

"Thor" and "Captain America," in their opening weekends in the States, had the box office success of just over $65,000,000

"Ant-Man" had just over $57,000,000.

Finally, "The Incredible Hulk" with less just $55,000,000.

Yet, still according to IMBD, "Batman Begins" made over $48,000,000 its opening weekend in 2005, "The Dark Knight" then came back in 2008 to blow box offices away with an opening weekend of over $158,000,000! (I already mentioned "The Dark Knight Rises" above.)

What's my point? The "Dark Knight" series was much much more dark than any of the Marvel movies, and I think that's what lead to its success. Let's be honest here: if superheroes were real, no matter where and when they are, life would be far scarier than worrying about saying the S word.

And that brings me back to "Deadpool." The fact that it's rated R due to one too many F-bombs and a tad too much blood is exactly what will compel viewers to see it! We've all imagined what it'd be like to be a superhero -- well, at least I have. I do curse, not gonna lie, but I never say the F word; but I can imagine being a superhero and having twenty different guys trying to kill you at once, and having the bomb slip off the old tongue. And let's be honest, with 20 different guys shooting to kill you, it's bound to be bloody!

Other than the fact that our culture seems to have an obsession with anti-heroes, I think "Deadpool" will show audiences what they've been waiting for: a semi-realistic superhero movie.
