Timeflies Tuesday Takes Control Over Omaha

As many UNL students were jamming to Jake Owen at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Sokol Auditorium was experiencing it's own sold out performance: Timeflies Tuesday. This building has been a part of Omaha's rich history since 1926. Although the auditorium was intended to play Czech polka music, it is now known as a venue for rock and hip-hop artists, like Timeflies Tuesday. This powerful duo has been traveling the country for their tour called, "After Hours," and let me tell you, this band does not fail to meet high expectations.

Sokol Auditorium was packed to the very top layer of the building. Starting the night, Kap Slap opened for Timeflies and left many saying that this act was one of the best openers they had ever seen. Kap Slap's remixes of songs blew away the audience with the incorporation of dub-step and a strong bass. With high energy and gun-like machines shooting fog, the crowd was prepared for the rest of the night.

Although the crowd was already in the midst of a giant mosh pit and dance party, the energy was instantly raised when Timeflies stepped onto the stage. The duo opened with their most recent popular hit, "All The Way," and the crowd reacted uncontrollably. Cal, the lead singer, was amazed when he yelled, "Go, Big Red" and the rest of Husker nation replied. In fact, throughout the show Cal continued to use the phrase to grab the attention of the crowd.

As a fan of the older Timeflies music, I appreciated the incorporation of some of the band's original sounds. The first song I ever fell in love with by the group was the remix of Disney's, "Under the Sea." Apparently, I am not the only one because the crowd seemed almost as excited as I was when the tune was played.

One of the band's unique selling points is the free-styling talent of Cal Shapiro. Concert-goers were given the chance to submit their own suggestions for a free-style rap by sending their ideas to Timeflies Tuesday's website. Ideas such as Bo Pelini, Ameer Abdullah, Harry Potter, and Halloween were successfully strung along into a rap at that instant. Of course, the band also introduced many of the songs from their newest album, "After Hours".

Concert-goers were thoroughly involved in the performance and the energy remained high the whole time. Many people around me mentioned multiple songs that they wished the band would have played and consistently wanted to hear more from the duo. Even though the concert was intended for high school and college students, Timeflies made sure to serenade the 10-year old girls who were "too turnt" for the concert, along with their parents. Although the performance wasn't exactly rated PG, it seems that Timeflies Tuesday knows how to entertain groups of all ages.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
