10 Things To Know Before Coming To MSU

1. Don’t get your hopes up to see the Bolin Fountain looking like Old Faithful.

Administration closed the fountain during the years of drought; we're hoping it will be working again this fall!

2. The Wi-Fi is unreliable.

One cannot even begin to explain how much MyResNet will make you want to rip your hair out. ALWAYS PRESS SAVE.

3. IT DOES RAIN! Bring an umbrella!

It doesn't rain here, they said. Don't bring an umbrella, they said. WRONG. It doesn't just rain at MSU – it floods. One day, you'll witness Lake Killingsworth in all its glory.

4. Homecoming is a BIG deal!

Let me explain. If you thought your high school homecoming was fun, you are in for a pleasant surprise. Our activities range from bonfires, to lip sync, to a cardboard boat race, and everything is a competition when it comes to homecoming.

5. Greek stereotypes are NOT true!

Even though I've only been through one year at MSU, I've yet to see Greek drama unfold. The fraternities and sororities at MSU don't keep themselves confined to just the Greek community, hence why the stereotypes don't apply at Midwestern.

6. We have some crazy campus-wide games.

Let's just say, when it comes to games within the campus, our motto is "Go big or go home!"

7. You will crave fast food in the middle of the night.

It's highly unlikely that you have enough food stocked in your room, and when your stomach makes that familiar dying whale noise at 3 a.m., you don't have to check with mom and dad to leave. Just hop in the car and take your pick: IHOP, Jack in the Box, Taco Bell, or Whataburger.

8. When it’s hot, it’s really hot, and when it’s cold, it’s really cold.

The weather at MSU clearly follows the bipolar Texas climate, but here in Wichita Falls we like to take things up a notch; you're either getting a sun burn or getting frost bite.

9. You will make some seriously awesome friends.

The small school atmosphere and outgoing student body make the possibilities of lifelong friends at MSU endless.

10. The campus is always beautiful.

It doesn't matter if it's raining, snowing, flooding, or sweltering heat, it's always a pleasure to just go out and watch the breathtaking beauty of the campus. I mean, just take a look above!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
