Everyone has “their” person in life. The one you always think about, who always puts a smile on your face, who you admire wholeheartedly. That person for me is my grandma.

Since she is amazing, I wanted to thank her for all she has done for me in my 18 years of life.

Thank you for building forts with me when mom was busy with work. Thank you for having races with me up the stairs. I know you let me win.

Thank you for all the laughter. When I think of you I always imagine you laughing, because it’s pretty much all you do. From playing cards to watching movies, you made it hilarious. Thank you for the car rides to Disney World, where you would sing and make hand puppets with me.

Thank you for telling me I’m beautiful. Even though I don’t always believe you, it’s nice to hear and needed. Thank you for caring about me when I felt like no one did. I can always count on your love.

Thank you for going on walks with me around the golf course. It was our time to talk, just the two of us, and it meant the world to me. Thank you for collecting shells with me and saving all of them; and saving all the stuff I bought at Disney World.

Thank you for supporting me. I’ve always had big dreams, and you always listened to each one. No matter if I wanted to be a singer, designer or journalist, you always believed in me.

Thank you for being honest and telling me when I’m being dramatic. We all need to hear that once in a while. Thank you for using emojis when we text; it just makes me really happy!

Thank you for showing me what real love looks like. You and Poppa are the main reason I believe in love. I want a marriage that will last as long and still be filled with so much love for the other person.

Thank you for being brave. I know you’re in a lot of pain right now and I would do anything to take away. Thank you for not complaining and being grateful for every second you’re here. If you didn’t have so much courage, I wouldn’t. Thank you for teaching me to be kind and grateful in every step of my life.

Thank you for being my favorite person in the world. I couldn’t imagine anyone being more important than you.

I love you,

Your grateful granddaughter

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
