The Home Stretch --You Got This!

As spring break came and past and we start to embark on the last leg of the school year, many things are on the mind.

“Wow, what the heck was I thinking on spring break."

“Shoot, finals are in a month or so."

“What am I going to do this summer."

“I want to make these last weeks count."

I have compiled a list with five inspirational and awesome quotes that should help any college student embrace and get excited for this last leg of the school year while making it count.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela

Considering we are all given this awesome opportunity of college education, as students we should take advantage of the classes we are in. Although there can be some boring general education requirements, the classes that we gain the most from will be the ones that stick with us and the ones that we learn things from. By learning as much as we can in our classes, we really can take these learned lessons and make a difference in the world in one way or another through action. Considering this is the point in school when everyone starts to get burnt out, knowing we can make a difference through our school and education is one more reason to push on to get through a boring class.

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." Anonymous

Considering college is new to everyone at first, every student must get out of their comfort zone in one way or another during the first part of their freshman year. After a few months, many start to form their routine, friend group, tasks, and comfort level. This stability can be great in so many ways, but it is always a good idea to throw yourself out of your comfort zone in different ways throughout college. College is only four years, and why not take advantage of some new club, activity or trip with new people that the college has to offer.

“The great aim of education is not knowledge, but action." Herbert Spencer

This is another great quote in regard to our college education since it shows us that education is not just knowledge and facts. To be useful with our education we must have action and we must be actively making an effort to use what we are learning to make something happen. This something can vary, depending on your major, but the ideas and opportunities are endless. Once again, this is a great quote to keep in mind when the end of the year seems to drag on.

“You are never too old to set a new goal, or dream a new dream." Aristotle

As many New Year's resolutions have faded, we often hit a slump after spring break and prior to summer. This is a great time to take advantage of what free time we have and set a new goal or dream. This could be big or small, but it is important to keep in mind that we are young and in college. We have so much of life ahead of us, but we are never ever too old to have a new and crazy goal or dream even if it seems completely impossible.

“Hey now, Hey nowww, this is what dreams are made of." Lizzie McGuire

Our fellow childhood favorite celebrity, Lizzie McGuire, once sang to us to get our attention and then dropped this bomb on us that “this is what dreams are made of." So let's take Rome and says it's college. Wait, College is what dreams are made of? Heck, yes! It is the four years of your life where you can literally do whatever you want, whenever you want, and you only have to worry about yourself. So let's take advantage of it and make some major dreams come true!

I hope this compilation of five quotes leaves you with some witty humor and a laugh or two. With spring break complete and the last month or so of school approaching quickly, we must remember to make it count! So embrace each day, try harder to make action happen through our learning, get out of our comfort zones, dream a little bigger, and remember that college is what dreams are made of.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
