Harry Potter fans around the world were saddened to hear of Alan Rickman's passing on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016. He died of cancer at age 69.
Rickman is known to many as Severus Snape, the complex and wonderful character created by J.K. Rowling in the "Harry Potter" books. Rickman brought the character to life in a way that would've been hard to achieve for other actors. "Harry Potter" stars took to Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to share their condolences and memories. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) said that Rickman was "undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with".
To remember the incredible actor and the brilliant character he portrayed, here are some of my favorite moments.
Rickman on Jimmy Fallon...
The real life Alan Rickman was nothing like the Severus Snape we were used to seeing.
Classic Snape moments...
Rickman's portrayal of Snape provided moments of comedic relief and quote-worthy ones such as the classic, "Turn to page 394."
All the years we thought Snape was evil...
Sure, he treated Harry maliciously over the years, but his allegiance with Dumbledore turned out to be true in the end.
And finally, seeing who Snape really was...
Being someone who grew up reading the books and watching the movies, I want to thank Alan Rickman for playing the "Half-Blood Prince" and contributing to my favorite series. Rest in peace.
