Now more than ever, companies are using the model of social entrepreneurship combined with the power of the Internet to initiate change in their local communities and around the world. Check out the following list of companies with a mission that you should definitely be shopping at, if you aren't already.

1. Sevenly

Founded in 2011 with the message that “people matter,” Sevenly donates 7 percent of all proceeds to a new nonprofit organization each week. The company sells a wide range of hand-designed apparel and accessories for women and men with a do-good message. This week, Sevenly is partnered with The Young and Brave Fund, which assists families facing childhood cancer by helping them raise funds online.

2. Soapbox Soaps

What began with a college student making soap in the small kitchen of his college apartment has now become a global effort. Embracing the motto “Soap = Hope,” the company donates a bar of soap or a month of clean water to someone in need for every product purchased. Products are even now available at Target stores nationwide, making giving back that much easier.

3. TOMS

One of the most popular footwear companies around, TOMS has always operated with the concept that for each pair of shoes purchased, another pair is donated to a child in need. Now, TOMS has expanded their efforts to include sales of eyewear, coffee, and handbags that provide a variety of benefits to those in need.

4. FEED

Known for its classic canvas tote bags, FEED is an organization whose mission is evident in its name. Proceeds from the sale of handbags, tees, and accessories are used to provide people in underprivileged countries with meals, micronutrient supplements, disaster relief, and other services.

5. 2 Degrees

Most of us love to take snacks on the go, but with 2 Degrees, your purchase can help give back to those who are less fortunate. The company manufactures healthy, vegan, gluten-free granola bars and is committed to feeding a hungry child for every bar that is purchased. So far, over two million meals have been delivered to children in need around the world.

6. Roma

Dedicated to “giving poverty the boot,” Roma is a footwear company similar to TOMS that donates footwear to a child in need for every pair of boots purchased. Furthermore, proceeds are used to contribute to education, the arts, and other philanthropic ventures in over 25 third world countries. Think Hunter Boots, but with a good message.

7. Better World Books

College students are always looking for the best deal possible on books and other school supplies. At Better World Books, not only do you get a good deal, but a book is also donated to a child in need with each purchase. In addition, proceeds are used to fund non-profit literacy organizations and promote recycling and sustainability with the principle that no book should go to waste.

8. People Water

A reusable water bottle is a must have for any on-the-go college student, and if you purchase one from People Water, you will aid in their commitment to providing new sources of clean water for those in need. Through the Drop for Drop program, projects involve building and/or repairing wells and establishing water purification systems in areas where people have limited access to clean water.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
