The 10 Stages We All Go Through During Finals Week

It is here guys: the long-awaited, but deeply dreaded, finals week. This week brings out the mixed emotions that result from the joy of the near end along with the terror of the biggest tests of the year. I don't know about you guys but, for me, this week is a whirlwind of stress, tears, delirium, and, hopefully, relief in the end. Here are the different stages that you will go through during finals week.

1. Study, study, study

When the week begins you're ready. You've been ready for this for your whole life, in fact. You know exactly what you need to make on these tests to keep your desired grade and exactly what you need to do to get it. All of your pencils are freshly sharpened, you've booked your corner in the library for the next ten hours, and you are ready to consume more information than Einstein himself put out.

2. Distraction

You were doing so well, but then cat videos happened.

3. Coffee frenzy

There's so much left to do and so little time. You're starting to get tired. I need caffeine now, please.

Once it starts it doesn't stop. The intake of coffee continues at this alarming rate for the next 5 days.

4. Losing it

You're starting to hiccup, your eyes are moving a little too fast, and your face is getting closer and closer to the book. Your friends told you to take a break, a nap, but you can't.

5. Man down

You just couldn't go on.

6. Pre-test pep talk

The time has come. The only thing that keeps you from bursting into tears is the inspiring words that your best friend, your significant other, your mom, or, maybe, just you gave to you before you went in.

7. Post-test fried brain

It's over. It's over. It's over forever., but your brain has officially turned to mush.

8. Realizing that you have another test tomorrow

You have to do it all again.

9. So done

You're over it. Who cares about the future anyway? Nothing is worth this kind of misery.

10. End of last final

After the process repeats itself a few times, you make it. Somehow you make it and, regardless of everything else, the semester is over. One way or another you have finished and now its time to celebrate!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
