10 Perils Of Holiday Family Gatherings: As Told By Britney Spears

Ah, the holidays. The most wonderful time of year. A time filled with joy, parties, and presents. But, there's always those few awkward bits. Luckily, Britney Spears feels your pain.

1. You have to listen to everyone’s political views.

It’s great to discuss political views, but there are other things you would rather discuss over your honey baked ham and yams.

2. You have to listen to your mom embellish on all of your recent accomplishments.

Mothers have a way of making everything you do sound as courageous as saving someone from a burring building and complex as brain surgery.

3. You have to deal with that one family member who loves Christmas just a little too much.

This is just the best. I mean everyone loves the holidays. Well, most people love the holidays. But there’s always that relative that has been watching Santa Claus is Coming To Town since September.

4. You are catching up with a distant relative and all is going well until they bring up your relationship status.

Ah, yes the age old question. Some people just find it very hard to believe that you’re in your second year of college and are still without a serious partner. Yes auntie, it is normal. No aunite, I don’t need you to set me up with one of your friend’s grandsons.

5. Your mom promises that this year the Christmas card pictures will be different, but you still somehow get roped into an utterly embarrassing position.

Your family tries to keep the Christmas spirit at an average to normal rate at your home, but somehow your family Christmas photos always go Griswold before you can say no.

6. Your adolescent relatives start jumping on your grandmother’s couch but instead of fussing them you pull up a chair and enjoy the entertainment.

Sorry grandma, this is just too entertaining. Plus, no one never told me no when I did it!

7. Your night is pretty slow, but your grandma breaks out her famous peanut butter fudge.

This one thing can take your below average family bonding night and make it worth while. Nothing tops that special recipe dessert.

8. One of your older family members tries to tell you the news they heard about your favorite celebrity, but they just get most of the major details completely wrong.

No, Henry Stiles did not leave Five Directions, grandma.

9. Then one of your family members starts telling you about the 4.0 they held all through college.

Nothing is better than someone who doesn’t really know you comparing their academic success to your own. Oh well, looks like it’s time for another eggnog. Or five…

10. Someone in your family then thinks it's a good idea to bring up your Facebook and ask about all of your pics in front of everyone.

Oh this is when it gets really awkward. Every person you’ve posted a photo with is a question. They want to know everything about your new college friends. Where they’re from, their majors, their parents’ names, age, blood types.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
