The 5 Essential Members Of Your College Squad

Whether your squad is squad for life, or just squad for four years, these are the people who will take your college experience to the next level.

1. The Miss Congeniality

Everyone in your school has claimed this person as a part of their squad. They can introduce you to anyone you want to know, get you into any on- or off-campus party, and they probably have a couple of your professors in the palm of their hand. This is the most socially powerful member of your squad, but they can tell when they’re being used. Don’t abuse their power without expecting to be left in the dust.

2. The Mom

Need a snack? Lotion? A shoulder to cry on? This person’s got you covered. They will take care of you through thick and thin, and they aren’t afraid to protect you when the night gets rougher than you expected. They will keep your squad together when everyone is at each other’s throats. Be grateful.

3. The Party Starter

If you can’t get into the party, you can still make your own with this squad member. They know how to have a good time no matter where you are, even if it’s just their dorm with a bag of chips and a “Real Housewives” marathon. Don’t underestimate the power of this squad member. When you’re feeling down, this person will bring you back up better than before.

4. The Designated Driver

Sometimes all you need to make friends is a car and a parking permit. They’ve seen you and everyone you know at your drunkest and lowest points. Stay on their good side, and you’ll be in on all the hot gossip. But get on their bad side, and you’ll see that they have more dirt on you than you even realize. Don’t cross this squad member. And pay for gas.

5. The Bestie

You don't like to pick favorites, but this is the true MVP of your squad. They've got your back, even if everyone else turns on you. Yes, you would probably lie under oath for them. Failing that, yes, you would bake them a cake with a crowbar in it so they could escape jail. And if all that failed, yes, you would find a way to bribe the guards into letting you share a cell. Don't lie. You would.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
