Every friend group is unique, and within these friend groups there are members who are both introverted and extroverted. There's nothing wrong with being one or the other; however, when combined together into a social circle, hangout sessions tend to be a little "complicated" sometimes. As someone who is more on the introverted side, having extroverted friends has definitely put me through some challenging times, especially now that I'm in college. Thus, I will present my own list of challenges commonly faced when spending time with extroverted friends.
1. Talking to strangers in public
Every time you stand in line for something, your extrovert buddy starts up a mini conversation with the person before you for no good reason other than to make you feel awkward for not putting in your two cents.
2. Singing in front of people (especially car karaoke).
When everyone starts a sing-along and you freeze up in terror when asked to join in.
3. Hands-on group activities make you nervous, but y our extrovert friends are all about it.
Public speaking, acting and stand up comedy. Uh-uh, nope.
4. When you’re checking out at the store and your friend tells the cashier her whole life story, and you stand awkwardly staring at all the candy.
I'd rather not have my legs go numb because Sharon decided to share her latest drama with the store clerk. Not amusing, Sharon. Not amusing whatsoever.
5. Your idea of fun on a Friday night is to stay in and do quiet activities like watching a movie or playing board games, while your friends want to go downtown and party.
I can eat so much junk food in three hours, wait 10 minutes and do it again because stomach skills.
6. When you’re invited to a party and you just sit in the corner thinking about all the Netflix you could be watching.
I'm working on finishing four TV series, and none of them are even close to half way done, so I definitely have higher priorities to attend to right now. Thanks for the invite though.
7. When you are alone at the store and can’t find an item, so you spend 10 minutes mustering the courage to ask an attendant where this item could be located (also when finding books in the library).
You take the buddy system seriously, and when they leave you to fend for yourself, a 10-minute shopping trip can turn into a 30-minute one.
8. When you and your friends are walking somewhere and they see one of their old friends, so you kind of disappear into the background to avoid introductions like a chameleon in camouflage mode.
You eventually develop the skills of a ninja or a mannequin.
9. When your friends dare you to do things in public.
Meanwhile silently going into panic mode.
10. When you go to the drive through, and you are put in charge of ordering the food for all of your friends.
You practice for 15 minutes saying the order, but as soon as you hear “Hello, can I take your order?”, the only words out of your mouth are “U
Being an introvert has its quirks here and there, but by the end of the day I wouldn't trade my extroverted friends and adventures for anything. Long live awkward friendships and all of their interesting moments.
