The Elephant in the Room

Can we really see Donald Trump as being the head of state?

The Elephant in the Room

Just in case you have been living under a rock I am here to be the bearer of bad news and inform you that elections are coming soon. However, this presidential election is different from most, it's more entertaining. Well, almost all presidential elections are entertaining but this one takes the cake. Why? Republican candidate, Donald Trump, has been causing a frenzy with his controversial remarks on political issues. Before running for presidency, Trump was a real estate mogul, and an entertainer for the hit show, Apprentice. Donald Trump and controversial remarks is nothing new, even before his run for presidency he has been known to say the darndest things. The current and significant problem is that people encourage a candidate who says the darndest things to not only be the head of the country, but also, a representative of us (or U.S.) as a whole. So her is a short list of some of the most outlandish and controversial remarks and moments.

1. Trump said John Mccain was not a war hero

Donald Trump discredited John Mccain as a war hero saying, "He was not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured." This is coming from someone whose only military experience is military school.

2. He mocked a disabled reporter.

When Donald Trump tried to reenact a conversation between he and reporter, he mocked New York Times', Serge Kovaleski, who has arthrogryposis.

3. A history of racist remarks about Blacks and Hispanics

Donald Trump is no stranger to Twitter, moreover he is no stranger to speaking his mind, no matter how racist they may be. In a tweet posted Jun 5th, 2013, Trump stated "Sadly, the overwhelming amount of violent crime in our major cities is committed by blacks and hispanics-a tough subject-must be discussed." This is one of the many tweets in which Trump blames minorities for crime.

4. Even more racist remarks about Muslims.

Donald Trump's plan when (if) he gets into office is to ban all Muslim immigration. Those who are already here can stay but that have to be under close watch. If this sounds familiar to you, that's because American had done this already to Japanese Americans. Did someone say Flash History Lesson time? In the early 20th century, Americans were intimidated by Japanese immigrants taking jobs. So after a lot pressure, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Immigration Act of 1924. This Act banned all Japanese immigration, this in return, offended the Japanese government. Believe it or not, this was a small but significant catalyst to WW2 and we all know that history tends to repeat itself.

5. He's not pretty good with the ladies.

Donald Trump has had a history of sexist comments not only during his run for presidency, but also as an entertainer. One of the most outrageous was his comment on military rape. In a tweet, Trump said "26,000 unreported sexual assults in the military-only 238 convictions. What did these geniuses expect when they put men & women together?"

6. Global Warming is a hoax.

According to Donald Trump, global warming is not a real thing. In fact he thinks "the concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive." It's safe to assume that Trump isn't ecofriendly.

Well there you have it, a very small list of idiotic statements and things Donald Trump. The thing about this is that we should not be surprised at Donald Trump's antics because he is an entertainer and this is what they do, entertain. The elephant in the room is that citizens encourage him to be the President of this country.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
