There have been countless protests against legalizing gay marriage, but why? You argue that gay marriage is this terrible, awful thing, but nobody has the right to judge someone based on their sexual preferences. You need to recognize that you don’t make the rules and gay marriage doesn’t change anything when it comes to the meaning of marriage. Learn to accept people for who they are instead of degrading them for something they cannot control.
First of all, gay marriage has absolutely nothing to do with you. It is not hurting you. It is not taking away from what marriage is. It is not a bad thing. It is mind-blowing that people could be so hateful towards something that has no impact on their life. If the legalization of gay marriage was not a big news story and you didn’t know about it, absolutely nothing would change in your life. If you’re going to protest against something, at least protest against something that plays a role in your everyday life.
Another fact about gay marriage is that we don’t know if it is a sin or not in God’s eyes. People interpret the Bible and even if God does not want someone to be gay, you are not the one to be judging that person. Remember, you are not God. God is the one who has the task of judging.
He gave us the role of loving each other, not judging them for who they are. With that being said, even if we were tasked with judging others, nobody has the right to oppose the legalization of gay marriage based on religion, because the government is not ruled by religion. If that were the case and people wanted to “sin”, let them sin.
Just because something is wrong to Christians does not mean it is wrong for everybody. Therefore, you have no position to protest the legalization. The constitution guarantees Americans freedom of religion, so having a law banning gay marriage based on Christianity violates our constitutional right.
How would you feel if the government prohibited worship on Sundays? Nobody has any right to go against gay marriage because it is not our position. You are not God and you do not know whether gay marriage is a sin or not. Even if it was, that does not mean it should be illegal.
Being gay is a natural thing, just like having brown hair or having green eyes. You shouldn’t be so hurtful to those who are a part of the LGBTQ community because they do not deserve it. Almost half of all gay and lesbian teens admit to have attempted suicide more than once—almost half.
I cannot imagine what it would feel like to be ridiculed to the extent that some are; being gay is not a choice. You would not like it if someone bullied you every day just for having a certain eye color or skin color. Just try to put yourself in the shoes of an LGBTQ member and recognize what it is like to be treated so horribly by people for something out of your control.
Why protest gay marriage if it is natural? I’m not going to protest people having black hair or freckles. I just hope that you can see how hard it is for these people to show their true self because of people who cannot accept them, and I hope you can be a friend to them instead of a bully.
To those who are still against the legalization of gay marriage, know that you are in the wrong. Being of a certain religion does not mean you have to be hateful towards gay people. I personally am not gay and I am Catholic, but that does not matter. I, unlike some, recognize that there is no place for me to hate on something that I am skeptical about, something that doesn’t affect me, or something that people are born as. As a society, we need to grow up, get over it, and change our attitudes.
To those who are part of the LGBTQ community, know that love is a beautiful thing regardless of who it involves.
