The Basics Guide For Guys Who Want To Have Style

When it comes to revamping your wardrobe, it’s always good to start with the basics. In the beginning, it can be pretty overwhelming and exciting at the same time when you start changing your closet up, especially when you look at many blogs, magazines, Instagram and Tumblr posts that have everything you want.

But before getting the clothes you want, let’s make sure you get comfortable dressing that way before investing the time and especially the money into a new fashion lifestyle.

Now, when I say get comfortable, some of you guys might have made a face and thought “wtf do you mean?” What I mean by "get comfortable" is that if you’re used to wearing T-shirts, jeans, pants, shorts and tennis shoes most of the time, then you better believe your new wardrobe isn’t going to feel the same.

When you start wearing your new clothes, it’s probably going to initially feel weird. You’re wearing something completely different than what you’re used to wearing, from rocking a simple graphic tee, a hoodie and some Chucks to now wearing a button up shirt with a blazer and some Chelsea boots.

So, when I say basics, don’t be concerned that I’m giving you tips on how to look basic. That is not the case. "Basics" mean the main colors you should start off with, the types of shirts, pants and shoes that will be a great starting point for your wardrobe. That’s the type of stuff I mean when I say basics. So without further ado, let’s get into it!

Colors:

For the most part, especially if you're just starting out, wear solid colors. Never freak out if you have on different shades of a color either; matching 100 percent with every color doesn’t always look good, in my opinion.

Tops:

Always have some button up shirts because you can always throw something together. Having colors like white and black is a must as well, because you can always put something together pretty quick.

You can never go wrong with a solid colored v-neck! A crew-neck works fine too! Sometimes we just have those days where we don’t want be all extra. It’s OK, having these will give you the options you deserve!
Chilly outside? Throwing on a nice sweater will keep the cold out and still make you look a million bucks.

Bottoms:

Chinos are a must-have when you’re trying to bump up your style. They also come in plenty of colors too!
Were you afraid I wasn’t going to bring up jeans? Denim is never a mistake, just as long as you get regular, slim or skinny fit, all will be fine. Don’t go boot cut, though. Ever.
Running late? Don’t feel like putting in extra effort? Or just wanting to wear this for the hell of it? Joggers are comfortable and look really good with a simple shirt and tennis shoes. I like to wear mine with Nike Roshe Runs!
Shorts weather is coming soon! Make sure you stock up for spring and summer with some chino shorts! Just like the pants, they come in many colors for your fun, outside outings that you’re going to plan soon!

Shoes:

Oxford shoes are a must-have for your closet. Whether you have a date, job interview or just want to have that classic “gentleman” look for any event, these shoes are great for it!
Sometimes we need to switch things up for the crowd, so having a pair of Chelsea boots will do the trick! They come in many colors and styles, you can dress up and even dress down with these bad boys and still leave with a great impression.
As I mentioned earlier, I like to wear my Nike Roshe Run tennis shoes. I love the look these shoes give off and it’s great that you can have a fashionable look with a pair of running shoes. Did I mention they come in dozens of colors?
Remember when I dissed Chucks earlier? I didn’t really mean that. They look good, period. Fashion sneakers, like Vans or any other styles, are perfect to spice up your outfit for the day!

Outerwear:

Always have a blazer in stock. You could wear it with almost anything. From a button up shirt to a regular T-shirt, just add that blazer to give your outfit a whole new vibe!
When times are getting cooler, a parka is great to stay warm and have style at the same time. I love the look of the parka and the colors they come in, too.
Windbreaker jackets are perfect for when it’s too warm for a coat but chilly enough to wear something over that shirt of yours. They’re especially great for rainy days and dress down days as well.
This is a perfect go-to jacket for the fall/winter. The bomber jacket is another jacket that looks great with pretty much anything, especially if you’re keeping it really casual.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
