Saying Goodbye

Goodbyes are hard - especially to your hometown.

22

Sorority move-in day is exciting for many reasons: seeing all your friends, setting up your area in your new room, going shopping for last minute things, eating the first meal with your new roomies, seeing everyone's newly craft decorated rooms, and many other firsts. Those these are all glamorous, the worst part of everything is saying goodbye to your hometown and family.

Those who live in big cities have it easy - they know they'll be back quickly because who can leave the hustle and bustle with no fuss. The city is engrained in them and they will always be desperate to go back. On the flip side though, small town people know the true meaning of goodbye.

Waving out the window as you see the places where you grew up is extremely heartbreaking. You know that soon enough you won't be coming back, so taking the time to enjoy everything fully is in fact necessary. You can't just say "See you later," because what if there isn't a later. School may require you to stay throughout the summer or jobs will whisk you off to a different state. Growing up can be tough.

Family is hard to say the word "goodbye" to be but you know you'll see them again. After all, they are related to you. Holidays, reunions, family weekend at school, it's not hard to reconnect. You'll call your parents every time you need to use their credit card in order to buy more canvas - for the future little, duh. Grandparents call occasionally. Siblings will rejoice that they have more of the house to themselves, but they'll come to see you when your parents come too.

Hometowns can make you crazy - growing up you're always ready to leave. But when it's actually time to go, you never want to leave. There is no way of knowing what's out in the world for you but without leaving, you definitely won't know.

Embrace saying goodbye, embrace the hello to your new life, and enjoy everything in between.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
