Hoosiers Outrun Cancer is close to Chi Omega's heart because our own house director, Becs, had breast cancer. We participated in the 15th annual 5K benefit run to fight this disease.
Every year, our chapter creates shirts that say "Hooters Support Hooters" in honor of Becs. We all wore the matching neon pink tanks and walked together. Some girls even decided to run. Not only did this year's Hoosiers Outrun Cancer hit home with Chi Omega, but also with Sigma Delta Tau.
Hoosiers Outrun Cancer especially hit home for SDT senior, Jessica Falender. Her cousin, Max Profeta, was recently diagnosed with leukemia about a week and a half before Hoosiers Outrun Cancer. The Sept. 20 race happened to land on his 21st birthday, and Falender felt that it was important for her to participate. A couple of her SDT sisters decided to walk the 5K.
"Max is such a strong fighter," Falender said.
The event allowed many to celebrate the survivors and honor those who have been taken by this horrible disease. The event also reminded us of how significant family members are.
