A Playlist To Heal Your Heart
Soul Science

To be human is to be vulnerable and with vulnerability comes heartache. Especially when you’re young and open to everything that comes your way. However, you can’t be heartbroken forever. You have to find ways to cope and heal your heart. Being a master at this myself, I always turn to music to relate. Music feeds the soul. If feelings could make sounds, music would be the result. Music speaks to me in a language that no other person or thing can. On that note, it’s only fitting to create a “heal your heart” playlist from my collection of many different styles and genres of music.

1. "Free" by Haley Reinhart

This song speaks to all the people who have had an emotional roller coaster of a relationship, but you’ve gotten too close to let go. Well, Haley Reinhart believes your misery will only end when you’re free and she’s probably right.

2. "River of Tears" by Alessia Cara

When your heart is broken, for whatever reason, everyone around you is always trying to cheer you up, but honestly sometimes it feels good to just be sad for a little while. This song will let you appreciate your heartache for what it is.

3. "Forever Don’t Last" by Jazmine Sullivan

This is one of my personal favorites. Its a very honest song and doesn’t cover up any of the misery of a heartbreak. Sometimes, in order to move on and heal, all you need is honesty.

4. "Missed" by Ella Henderson

This one is for all the boys who thought that a girl just couldn't live without them. And for a while, that girl probably thought the same thing. This song is for when you come out of the fog and realize how right your decision was to just walk away.

5. "Mine" by Phoebe Ryan

This song is more upbeat to pull you out of bed in the morning. It reminds all of us, that our own lives and hearts are ours before any boys call them their own.

6. "Cry Me a River" by Justin Timberlake

This is such a classic and throwback song. First of all, JT’s voice is amazing and can make you feel good no matter what. However, in this case, he refuses to feel bad for his ex when karma hit her, which we can all relate to.

7. "Miss Movin’ On" by Fifth Harmony

This is such an upbeat song that will bring you out of your funk. These five fab girls sing about starting over and never being the same after a breakup which is the truest thing I've I ever heard. Its a very relatable song that will get you "movin' on" from your ex.

8. "Best Thing I Never Had" by Beyoncé

I can always handle some Beyoncé and this IS one of the best jams she’s put out there. Sometimes not getting what you want is the best thing to ever happen to a person.

9. "Let it all go" by Birdy

This is a good song to listen to when you’re feeling angry and confused about the situation you’ve been put in. Birdy’s advice is to just let it all go and move on gracefully, because you knew it wasn’t going to work out in the end.

10. "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye

This song is also a very relatable one. It’s crazy how fast a person can go from being the most important person in your life to a stranger, but sometimes that’s the best option for everyone.

11. "Open Your Eyes" by John Legend

This song speaks to so many people out there who have tunnel vision in their love lives. We often get carried away with the perfect picture we have in our head and don’t see what’s really in front of us. John Legend encourages us to “open our eyes and he can show us the light.” I don’t know about you, but I won’t stop him from showing me the light.

12. "Unkiss Me" by Maroon 5

The title of this song speaks for itself. Most breakups don’t end well and when that happens, you automatically regret everything you ever did with that person. A lot of the time we just can’t handle the emotions of a breakup, so we just regret ever meeting that person. This song will allow you to feel that way and it be OK.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
