It's getting close to the end of your senior year of high school, and the big question that rings in your ear about three times a week is; "Where are you going to college in the fall?" In my senior year, I was ready to take on the same college as one of my best friends, and soon enough, she ended up deciding to go to a different school. At first I was freaking out and asking myself "What am I going to do without her here?" But then, when school actually came, I realized how much I loved it, and how much I learned to love it on my own.
Living in a whole new town with a bunch of new people doesn't always sound comforting, considering I've gone to school with the same people for all of my grade school, middle school, and high school years. I was so used to knowing everybody that I was terrified to go to a school where I didn't know at least half the people that were there. But luckily, being alone didn't turn out terrifying. It turned out quite rewarding.
Being alone pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and into the social atmosphere. I joined clubs, went to open mics, and didn't hesitate to talk to people who sat next to me in my classes. Talking to people boosted my confidence in my communication skills, skills I thought I didn't have.
Exposure to new things really taught me how to be on my own. I've learned things about myself that the me a year ago would've never recognized the person that I am now. And to quote Drake, "And really, I think I like who I'm becoming."
College is a place for everyone to get the "re-do" that they didn't get in high school. No one cares about who you were, how you dress, or who you hang out with. We are all here for one thing, our diploma (and a little fun on the side). We meet lifelong friends, and make lifelong memories. I know I've met some of the most astonishing people that I've ever met in my entire life, and I thank college for that undoubtedly.
Everyone's college experience is different, it's just what you make of it & what you take from it. Change is good, change is attaining experiences to shape yourself. College is said to be the greatest 4 years of your life, don't be scared to find yourself by yourself while you're there.
