Walking over the Lexington avenue bridge at Hunter College I overheard a brief conversation of a few undergraduate students. One of the students said, “So guys, Donald trump?” Another student quickly responded saying, “ He is dumb," and the group of friends started laughing. I stayed around not to be a creep but to listen to the conversation following her comment. Unfortunately, there was no conversation relating to Donald trump. Somehow the conversation switched to the new Chinese restaurant on 72nd.

According to an article on U.S News only 49% of young adults between the ages of 18 and 29 voted in the presidential campaign. Let me repeat: only 49% of young adults voted in the presidential campaign of 2012. I believe that this is why voter turn-out among young adults is so low; young adults have points of view without evidence or reasoning.

So in an effort to help increase the number of young adult voters, here are 10 Donald Trump quotes that highlight his position on certain policy issues. You should know about these before you make a decision about his mental capacity. Furthermore, have a conversation about why you believe what you believe. Without a following conversation, your statement “He is dumb” is irrelevant, just like a thesis without any supports.

  • Ban late abortions; exceptions for rape, incest or health. (Jun 2015)
  • No gay marriage; no same-sex partner benefits. (Mar 2011)
  • Legalize drugs and use tax revenue to fund drug education. (Apr 2011)
  • Climate change is a hoax. (Jun 2015)
  • I am against gun control. (Feb 2011)
  • We need wall on Mexican border, but ok to have a door in it. (Aug 2015)
  • Half of the undocumented residents in America are criminals. (Jun 2015)
  • Let “saints” help teen moms; restrict public assistance. (Jul 2000)
  • If debt reaches $24T, that's the point of no return. (Jun 2015)

And finally..

  • If I run and win, our country will be great again. (Feb 2011)

So you are the one to decide whether or not Donald Trump is dumb. Hopefully the rest of the 51% of young adults stand up for what they believe in and realize they do have the power to take action and more importantly it is not only their right but also their duty to do so.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
