12 Places To Visit In The Hudson Valley

The lower Hudson Valley is by far the best region in New York. Not only is it the most scenic area in the state, but it has its own unique culture. Going to school in Long Island has shown me how genuinely friendly and nice people from the Hudson Valley are. I never knew how lucky I was to have grown up in such a wonderful place until I left. Now I want to spread the wealth and share some of my favorite Hudson Valley locations!

1. Ninham Fire Tower

In my hometown, Carmel, Ninham Fire Tower is a staple high school experience. This short hike leads to a large fire tower with an incredible view over Putnam County.

2. Cold Spring Water Front

Cold Spring is by far my favorite town in the Hudson Valley. This adorable little town comes with multiple coffee shops, the best ice cream place around, free Sunday summer concerts, and a breathtaking view of the Hudson.

3. Breakneck Ridge

Another highlight of Cold Spring is Breakneck Ridge. Not nearly as painful as the name leads on, this hike does include some rock climbing but the view of the valley is well worth it.

4. Walkway Over The Hudson

This walkway was converted from old train tracks and gives travelers the hands down best view of the river.

5. Vanderbilt Mansion

This historic mansion has a view of the river, an amazing waterfall, and great hikes in the woods. It is a must do on a nice day off.

6. Croton Dam

You can get a birds-eye view of the dam by walking across the bridge featured in this picture, but you can also have a nice picnic on the grass surrounding the bottom of the dam.

7. Tarrytown Lighthouse

The Tarrytown waterfront is beautiful. You have a view of the Tappan Zee Bridge, a cute park, and an old lighthouse that you can walk around.

8. Ossining Waterfront

Ossining is filled with marinas. Walking around the various docks is a great experience. I also highly recommend getting ice cream at the Blue Pig.

9. Newburgh Waterfront

Newburgh has the most active waterfront in my opinion. It is lined with restaurants. There are also tour boats docked in Newburgh, my favorite being the River Rose (shameless plug for a family member there).

10. Chuang Yen Monastery

This monastery is the home to the largest Buddha statue in the Western Hemisphere. These 200 acres hold many statues, ponds, and walkways. Walking around the monastery is always relaxing and peaceful.

11. Route 301

This long and windy road is dotted with lakes, parks, gardens, and hikes. Whenever I need to clear my mind I like to drive down this road which starts in my hometown, Carmel, and ends in Cold Spring.

12. Peekskill Waterfront

Peekskill is home to some of the best coffee shops. I like to grab a cup of coffee and go sit by the water. The rocky coastline makes this a very aesthetically appealing section of the Hudson.

I hope you enjoyed this list and it inspired you to visit the Hudson Valley!

The Unwritten Rules Of "Talking"

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
