Today, music is available with the push of a button. Oh, did I say button? I mean with the tap of a finger on your smartphone. With newer apps like Spotify and Apple Music, there are so many artists that are being discovered now thanever would have been possible when the music industry only consisted of CDs, cassettes, and records.

Since my recent subscription to Apple Music, I have discovered so many songs and artists that are now part of my everyday playlists. In the app, there is a tab I can choose that shows me all of the recent songs and albums that have been released and I have access to them at all times. If I like a particular artist, I can follow them so I know whenever they have a new single or album coming out. When I discover a song that I am fond of, I can add it to a playlist with two clicks. Who would’ve thought accessing music would one day become this easy?

Just a few months ago SoMo released a new album and I had heard of him before, but I had no idea what kind of music he produced. That day I had several friends who were excited about it and as soon as I got on Apple Music, the album popped up. I added the album to my music and now it is part of my favorite shower playlist.

Music has always been a very important component in my life and today’s music allows me to find not just one song, but a playlist of songs to correspond with how I am feeling. This holds true for not only me, but everyone.

We all know that country songs are about country roads, drinking beer, and beaches, but when you’re missing the beach, what’s better than listening to a Luke Bryan song? Working out? Well, between dubstep, rap and alternative, there’s a wide variety of pump up songs to choose from. Then there’s my personal favorite, taking a nice bubble bath with a mix of John Mayer and The Fray playing. Seriously, there are so many playlists to choose from on these apps and websites, and for any occasion.

Our parents tend to complain about our music choices (at least mine do) because there’s too much bass or it’s too repetitive. I guess they have never listened to Don’t Stop Believin’. It all comes down to what you’re used to. I grew up with classic rock, so I am an avid supporter of that as well, but there is nothing I love more than finding a new song to jam out into the car.

Aside from all of the opinions our parents and the people around us have about our music, music helps us cope, motivates us, and has the ability to put us in a good mood. Music is a therapy and just like there are all different types of people, there are all different types of music to fit a personality, pick you up when you are down and make endless memories with.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
